Solicitor at Balfour + Manson LLP

Shona Brown

Solicitor - Partner

In 1991, I decided to change direction from dentistry and returned to university to study law. After qualifying in 1994, I worked both in Edinburgh and in East Lothian, ultimately as a partner in general practice. In 2008 I changed direction again to specialise in private client matters. I joined Balfour+Manson from Bonar Mackenzie in 2012, as an associate in the Private Client department and was assumed Partner in September 2014. I am an experienced private client solicitor. I specialise in the drafting of wills and in the creation and management of trusts, including personal injury trusts, succession planning, asset protection and tax mitigation both during lifetime and at the time of someone’s death. I am also experienced in the administration of complex and high value executries and related tax matters. I can provide advice on a range of issues, including advance directives, powers of attorney, intervention orders, guardianship as well as access to funds orders. I have a particular interest in working with elderly and vulnerable clients and those who lack capacity and their families. I head up our dedicated client welfare team. This team includes solicitors who provide legal advice enabling clients to express wishes for future care and decisions supported by our client welfare managers whose experience and practical assistance allows us to offer a holistic and tailored service for each client.
