Received over 11 thousand pound fee refund ordered by Legal Ombudsman and £500 compensation for emotional impact of poor service

My name is Dave
Pickup and I used this firm in 2016. Made complaints to the firm who rejected them, forcing me to go to the Legal Ombudsman who awarded me a five figure refund in fees and compensation for emotional impact of poor service. The firm made an application for a Judicial Review to overturn the decision which was rejected. Finally got repaid some 3 years after making the initial complaint.

Unprofessional

Very poor and unprofessional firm, caused months of delay to my case by not sending documents, did not communicate or return my calls, after 6 months And being no further forward I removed them as my solicitor , they then withheld my deposit for 6 months and continued to fail to respond to any of my complaints, accused me of not paying bills when I had.
In the end I had to complain to the Ombudsman ( case F033497) to deal with their poor service who agreed with me and enforced Bastows to pay back what they billed me

Excellent support

Lynne and the Bastows team are professional and approachable. They have been supportive and compassionate throughout a difficult, drawn out (not of their making) process. Lynne provides a realistic perspective so expectations are managed. I would happily recommend Bastows.

Diappponting experience

I initially instructed the firm on a barter arrangement where we exchanged professional services. Bastows changed the arrangement mid case. Mine was a complex financial case. They came in more than double their cost estimate I raised concerns about costs and the firms capability to handle my case. They stopped acting for me mid case. I have subsequently made a number of complaints to the legal ombudsman
