Victim of Conveyancing Fraud

I was the victim of conveyancing fraud. This was as a result of Scutt Beaumont IT systems being Hacked. The fraudster posed as my solicitor and sent emails from my solicitors actual email account pretending to be her. They had all of my information from previous emails back and forth from my solicitor. I had transferred a substantial amount of money to what i believed was the solicitors account. I tried calling the solicitors multiple times, however I was told that the solicitor was not available and they would let them know I had called. What they actually did was email the solicitor to let them know I had called and ofcourse the FRAUDSTER would intercept the email and then email me back (again pretending to be the solicitor) telling me they had received my calls and that they were just really busy and to proceed with the transaction. and then after a couple of days I had a call from the ACTUAL solicitors telling me their systems were hacked and not to transfer money, unfortunately I had already transferred. However I had later found out that the solicitors had found out a day before that they were hacked and if they had told me as soon as they found out then the transaction would NOT have gone through and I would still have my money.

Fortunately after months of conversations with my bank I had my money back (after about 15 weeks). During this process I called the solicitors multiple times and even spoke to the MD. They subsequently sent me a letter in the post saying that they were not responsible and that their insurers have said they hold no liability for this.

After it all happened the MD offered a reduction of 25% on their fees. Which I thought was quite insulting to be honest. I would feel the very least that they should do is wave their fees completely, but they did not agree.

Personally I would never use them again. I did not have the best experience with them.
