Michelle was extremely helpful and fully explained the POA process in a clear and concise manner. She spent time with my husband who is recovering from a stroke and explained what POA would mean to him in a way that he clearly understood. Michelle is an excellent people person!

  • Dawn Owen

    Dawn was educated locally at Tividale Comprehensive, now known as Ormiston Sandwell Community Academy, where she completed her GCSE’s. Dawn then went on to join Frearsons Solicitors as a Legal Secretary supporting the Senior Partner and Commercial Associate Solicitor. Dawn joined FBC Manby Bowdler as a Chartered Legal Executive in the Residential Property Team in 2015. Dawn deals with all aspects of residential conveyancing and handles a full caseload of residential sales and purchases from inception to completion.

  • Kim Carr

    Kim obtained a LLB (Hons) Law Degree from the University of Birmingham in 1982, before completing the Law Society Finals at the College of Law in Guildford in 1983. Kim joined the Firm as a Trainee Solicitor and qualified as a Solicitor in 1986, became a Partner in 1989 and was appointed Managing Partner in 2005. Alongside Partner Craig Ridge, Marketing Manager Laura Jones and Sales Director Neil Lloyd, Kim is a member of the Firm's Strategic Management Board, responsible for spearheading the Firm's future development. Kim's leadership skills and people focus has been integral to the Firm's continued growth and success in the Times Best Companies Survey over the last 4 years. Kim was awarded the LawNet Managing Partner of the Year Award in 2012, which recognised her outstanding performance and leadership. In 2015 Kim was appointed Chair of LawNet and is the first woman to hold the role in the network’s 26 year history.

  • Julie Burn

    Julie obtained an LLB (Hons) Law Degree from the University of Wales in Cardiff in 1978 before completing her Legal Practice Course at the College of Law in Chester in 1979. Julie qualified as a Solicitor in 1981 and joined Manby & Steward in the same year as an Assistant Solicitor in the Bridgnorth Office. Julie became a Partner in the Private Client Team in 1986 and is the Lead Partner of the Wills, Probate & Lifetime Planning Team across the West Midlands and Shropshire. Julie specialises in Court of Protection work where she is able to act as a Professional Deputy, making decisions for individuals who lack the mental capacity to do so themselves, usually as a result of illness or injury. Julie is dedicated to her clients' long term welfare, always acting with their best interests in mind and because of this is highly regarded and reputed for her work in this area.

  • Tim Gray

    Tim was educated at Queen Mary’s Grammar School in Walsall and obtained an LLB (Hons) Law Degree from the University of Wolverhampton in 1983. Tim completed his law exams at Chester Law School in 1984 and qualified as a Solicitor in 1989. He completed his training contract at Enoch Evans in Walsall before moving to Cartwright and Lewis in Birmingham where he developed an interest in personal injury and medical negligence work. Tim joined fbc Solicitors as a Solicitor in the Personal Injury and Clinical Negligence Department in 1994 and became a Partner in 1997. Tim is an accomplished and very experienced personal injury and clinical negligence lawyer, having specialised in this field for over 20 years. Tim is the Lead Partner within the Department and heads up the Firm’s Clinical Negligence Team, in addition to managing other high value and complex multi track cases, often involving head and spinal injuries and cases of amputation. Tim has secured several substantial claims for seriously injured claimants during recent years and is experienced in successfully dealing with the often difficult challenges that arise during the claims process including the recovery of damages for care and the provision of statutory care services, and negotiating and seeking approval of orders for periodical payments.

  • Harbinder Gosal

    Harbinder obtained a 2:1 (Hons) LLB Law Degree at Manchester Metropolitan University in 1995, before completing her Legal Practice Course at Nottingham Law School in 1996. Harbinder began her training contract at a small firm based in Manchester and qualified as a Solicitor in 1999. Upon qualification Harbinder worked in Manchester, Redditch and returned to the West Midlands in 2010 to join QualitySolicitors Davisons as Partner and Head of the Family Team. Harbinder joined FBC Manby Bowdler as a Senior Associate in the Family Department in 2016. Harbinder deals with all aspects of Family and Child Law, specialising in privately funded Divorce and Matrimonial Finance cases. Harbinder also has experience in dealing with domestic violence and Child Law matters within our Family team in Wolverhampton.

  • David Preece

    David graduated with a 2:1 (Hons) Law Degree from the University of Sheffield in 2006. He went on to complete his Legal Practice Course at the College of Law in Birmingham, achieving Distinction. David joined FBC Manby Bowdler as a Trainee Solicitor in 2008, qualified as a Solicitor in the Corporate Department in 2010 and was appointed an Partner in 2017. David advises on all aspects of company and commercial law, from corporate transactions including the purchase, sale and reorganisation of companies to non-transactional matters, particularly drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial agreements. In addition David has a growing construction law practice, dealing with both standard and bespoke construction contracts and he is also an established member of the Intellectual Property (IP), Technology & Media Law Group, advising clients on a range of non-contentious intellectual property matters, with a particular emphasis on protection of IP through the registration of trade marks as well as through copyright and design rights.

  • Niall Blackie

    Niall obtained his LLB (Hons) Degree from Exeter University in 1979 and completed the Law Society Final exams in 1979. Niall joined the Firm in 1979, qualified as a Solicitor in 1981 and later qualified by examination as a Legal Associate of the Royal Town Planning Institute in 1988. Since 1988 Niall has specialised in Ecclesiastical Law, acting for the Bishop and Diocese of Lichfield as Diocesan Registrar, first as deputy and then as the Registrar. In addition Niall also became a Solicitor Advocate in 2004 and was appointed Senior Partner of the Firm in April 2011. Niall heads up the Firm's Town & Country Planning Department and specialises in all aspects of the town and country planning regime including site promotion option and conditional contract work, development plans, planning applications and appeals particularly inquiries and hearings but also written appeals, High Court challenges and judicial reviews, planning and related agreements (eg ‘s106’, ‘s278’, ‘s38’ and ‘s104’), enforcement appeals, lawful development certificate applications and appeals, compulsory purchase and compensation and footpath and other highway cases. In 2015 Niall was named on the 'elite lawyers' list in leading legal directory, the Legal 500, for his town and country planning expertise.

  • Julia Fitzsimmons

    Julia studied law at Birmingham University before beginning her legal training at DLA Piper in Sheffield. There she spent 12 years working with national and international businesses and government departments, specialising in managing the employee issues that surround business restructure. An experienced tribunal advocate with particular expertise in discrimination issues, Julia acted for a wide variety of manufacturing businesses in her next role as a legal advisor at the EEF, based in South Yorkshire. Returning to the West Midlands, Julia spent the past seven years as a Senior Associate at George Green LLP. There she supported owners, managers and manufacturing businesses with major reorganisations, including the management of industrial relations and successfully defending her clients in Employment Tribunals. Julia joined FBC Manby Bowdler as a Partner in our Employment Team in July 2016. Based in our Telford office, Julia works with a range of agricultural, manufacturing and SME clients across Shropshire.

  • Anne Thomson

    Anne obtained a BA (Hons) Law Degree from the College of Law, Chester in 1982 and began her training contract with J H Baxter qualifying as a Solicitor in 1986. Anne has over 25 years experience in Family Law and was made a Partner in 1992. Anne is the Lead Partner within the Firm's Family Department and deals with all aspects of the breakdown of relationships which has included acting for citizens of the European community and resident of the UK. She deals with matters involving jointly owned assets and often complex commercial issues involving family companies, farming cases and disposal of pensions. Anne is recognised as the leading matrimonial solicitor in the region.

  • Margaret Rowe

    Margaret spent many years’ working as a high level sales manager in retail before deciding on a change of career and moving into law. She obtained her LLB (Hons) Law Degree from Keele University in 2002, before completing the Legal Practice Course at Staffordshire University in 2004. Margaret began her training contract with a Staffordshire law firm and qualified as a Solicitor in 2005. Margaret joined FBC Manby Bowdler as a Partner in the Wills, Probate & Lifetime Planning Department in 2011. Margaret advises on all aspects of wills and probate work and elderly client matters. As a key member of the Firm's Disputed Probate Team she also advises on the administration of estates and trusts, advice in connection with breach of trust or breach of duty, application of the intestacy rule and obtaining grants of probate and letters of administration.   • Sara Morton

    Sara obtained her LLB (Hons) Law Degree at the University of Central England, Perry Barr in 2005, before completing the Legal Practice Course at the College of Law, Birmingham in 2006. Sara began her training contract with the Firm in 2006 and qualified as a Solicitor in the Family Department in 2008. Sara was made a Partner in 2014. Sara has experience in all types of family cases including divorce, linked financial matters and disputes regarding children. She specialises in cohabitation matters and assists with high net worth cases. Sara has a good manner with clients providing clear and concise advice. She is practical in her approach which is much appreciated by clients. Where possible, Sara encourages clients to resolve disputes in a constructive and non-confrontational way.

  • Jan Corser

    Jan was educated locally at Francis Leveson Secondary Modern and attended Walsall College to complete Part 1 Institute of Legal Executives (ILEX) qualification in 1999. Jan originally joined George F Baker as an Office Junior progressing to Legal Secretary in 1970 and then to a Legal Assistant in 2000 in the Wills, Probate & Lifetime Planning Department. Jan specialises in the writing of wills, dealing with the administration of estates, deeds of gifts and lasting powers of attorney.

  • Andrew Verlander

    Andrew was educated at King Edward VI Grammar School in Stratford-upon-Avon before going on to attend the College of Technology in Solihull. Andrew entered into the legal profession in 1978 as a Trainee Legal Executive and qualified as a Fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives in 1999. Andrew joined Foster Baxter Cooksey as a Legal Executive in 1989 in the Commercial Litigation Department and became an Associate at FBC Manby Bowdler in 2010. Andrew heads up the Residential Landlords Team, specialising in mortgage repossession cases and dealing with both private and commercial mortgages. He is the preferred advisor for two local building societies. Andrew also advises on private landlord and tenant matters from drafting assured shorthold tenancies, advising landlords and tenants on procedures of possession of properties and dealing with relevant notices required on deposits and all other landlord and tenant matters. Andrew also deals with all commercial landlord and tenant litigation including the serving of appropriate notices for both landlord and tenant when terminating leases with the proceedings under the 1954 act. In April 2016 Andrew was awarded the Chartered Legal Executive of the Year title in the annual Birmingham Law Society awards.

  • Paramjit Jassal

    Paramjit obtained an LLB (Hons) Law Degree from DeMontfort University in Leicester in 1998, before completing the Legal Practice Course at the University of Wolverhampton in 2001. Paramjit went on to study Domestic and International Law achieving an LLM Masters at the University of Wolverhampton. Paramjit began his training contract at JD Solicitors Ltd and qualified as a Solicitor in 2011 before joining FBC Manby Bowdler as a Solicitor in the Residential Property Department in 2015. Paramjit deals with all residential property matters and specialises in purchases, sales, remortgages, rights to buy from the initial enquiry through to completion.

    Jas obtained her LLB (Hons) Law Degree from the University of De Montford in Leicester in 2001 before completing the Legal Practice Course at the College of Law in Birmingham in 2002. Jas began her training contract at Irvings Solicitors in Liverpool and qualified as a Solicitor in 2005. Jas joined FBC Manby Bowdler as a Solicitor in the Personal Injury Department in 2006 and was appointed an Associate in 2010. Jas is Team Leader of the Department’s Public and Occupiers Liability Team. Jas has over 10 years' expertise in personal injury cases including occupiers’ liability, public liability, employers; liability and road traffic accident claim ranging from fast track to complicated and high value multi track claims.
