Will never ever use again

I am extremely disappointed with the service I have received from Talbots Law. After purchasing a property in the beginning of June, with no chain, I was informed the process would take 3/4 months to complete. It has now been nearly 6 months and I have been informed with a week to go until my exchange and complete date, with deliveries booked in, removal companies at the ready, that my house is at risk of not going through.

There has been no communication from the solicitor dealing with my file, I have never received a phone call from my lead contact and email communication has always been led by me as the client. They do nothing to update you on the status of the file, I have offered to do what I can to speed up the process a number of times, documents were sent to an email address they provided where the member of staff didn’t actually have access to them and now I am extremely stressed, frustrated and disappointed.

If my property does not complete as it is supposed to on 1st December, I will be making a formal complaint about the way I have been treated

Slow and poor experience

The purchase of my flat through Talbots law with no chain involved took over 6 months. Communications were awful with emails being ignored and only being able to speak to the Paralegal adviser who did the work on the flat around the time of exchange. At the end of the experience we were owed back £35 which has never been paid despite both me and my husband having to speak to them separately to give our bank details to make the payment and despite having chased by email three or four times. I have been frustrated by this firm. I would notrecommend them. Even the estate agent who recommended them was frustrated at the slow service and lack of communications.

Lack of communication and so slow!

We are looking at buying a new build shared ownership. We were told the process normally takes about 12 weeks to complete and we were expecting some time in September plus an extra few weeks. We are now in mid November and we are struggling to hear back from the solicitors. I get a random emails about 2 weeks apart asking for documents to be signed instead of just sending everything at once. I have asked how long the process is going to take multiple times and it's just being ignored. We have now had to put notice in on our rental house as our tenancy is coming to an end soon and we are still unclear when we will be moving in. We are the last house in the estate that have not moved in!

A truly shocking experience

I can only echo the other one star reviews I have seen and wish I had taken heed.

There is a complete lack of communication, professionalism or care for clients. You can email repeatedly and receive no response. It is very challenged to get clarification on basic information, such as ‘what is outstanding?’.

We have asked repeatedly for communication between Talbots and the buyers solicitor, however, this has never been actioned i.e., could you not speak to them or perhaps have a conference call between the parties so we can understand what the challenges are.

If you escalate your case, as we have repeatedly, you are then ignored by the team manager or director.

We are nearly 9 months into a sale whereby there is two people in the chain and there is very little urgency. My husband has pointed out that you can grow a human in this time and we are still awaiting exchange. This sadly is partly due to the buyers solicitor also being unprofessional.

This firm should be avoided at all costs.

Dreadful!!!

Just don't bother. Solicitors leave all the time, you get allocated another one and they leave. The whole process is painful, they don't communicate, they are rude and lose documents all of the time. No chain, 4.5 months on and still going. Please do not use them if you value your sanity.

Extremely Disappointing Experience with Talbots Law

I regret to write this review detailing my profoundly unsatisfactory experience with Talbots Law. My husband and I engaged their services for a conveyancing matter, and the overall incompetence, negligence, and lack of professionalism displayed by this firm have been nothing short of damaging to our financial and emotional well-being.

First and foremost, Talbots Law has proven itself to be shockingly inefficient. They consistently demonstrated an inexplicable lack of urgency in their work, which resulted in extensive delays at every stage of our conveyancing process. To illustrate the extent of their sluggishness:

Initial Enquiries: It took an exasperatingly protracted 7 weeks for them to initiate the initial enquiries.

Local Searches Report: A further 7 weeks elapsed before we received the Local Searches Report.

Receipt of Mortgage Report: Astonishingly, this simple task also consumed 7 weeks.

Draft Contract to Initial Enquiries: An inexcusable 6 weeks passed before they managed to move from the draft contract to addressing initial enquiries.

Receipt of Local Searches to Report: Despite the gravity of our situation, they took an additional 3 weeks to compile the report.

Receipt of Mortgage Offer to Mortgage Report: Even worse, it took a staggering 6 weeks to receive the Mortgage Report, with an additional week required for amendments.

This grossly inadequate performance has had serious financial consequences for us. Talbots Law failed to inform our lender of a price renegotiation for over two months, which led to unnecessary expenses amounting to over £4000 in rental fees and property purchase costs.

Moreover, their communication was deeply flawed. They consistently ignored our attempts to reach out, demonstrating a shocking level of neglect in handling important documents and files. The sheer number of falsehoods and unfulfilled promises we encountered throughout our engagement with Talbots Law further underscored their overall incompetence.

Despite our multiple complaints over the course of a month, there has been no discernible improvement in their services. The detrimental impact on our lives, both financially and emotionally, cannot be overstated.

I am compelled to share this review to caution others against entrusting their legal matters to Talbots Law. The experience we endured was not only professionally subpar but also emotionally distressing. I implore anyone in need of legal services, particularly conveyancing, to carefully consider their options and seek out a more competent and reliable firm. Our unfortunate experience with Talbots Law serves as a stark warning of the potential consequences of choosing a legal partner who demonstrates such a profound lack of professionalism and competence.

Excellent service

I was lucky enough to have Prayag Patel take over my file. He was absolutely exceptional. He was very responsive and communicative. He was also very clued up on new developments in the law which impacted my case and took the time to explain them to me in detail. Couldn't fault him.

Appalling Communication and Slow service

I was referred to yourselves and started the proceedings of purchasing my first time home on 20/02/2023. It has been seven almost eight months now, to which I am still waiting on a final completion date for a property that has no chain or other exchanges to go through. Lisa Byng Trainee Conveyancing Executive and Talha Ikhlaq Legal Assistant are currently dealing with the purchasing of my property.

Firstly within the past two months I have experienced a lack of basic good communication via email and telephone through Lisa and Talha who are managing my case. I am mostly the person who has to initiate communication first as they do not communicate effectively or update me regularly on what is happening on my case and it can be difficult to get in contact with both of them too. I have emailed Talha asking how I could put in a formal complaint to which he has ignored my question on 14/08/2023

The whole process has been very mentally and physically difficult and challenging for myself due to how long the process is still currently taking. I have been evicted from my previous property and now officially homeless. To which neither of them have acknowledged my situation. I have put in a formal complaint to which I hope to hear back from.

They did the job, but very slow. Rude and not helpful. I had to keep ringing for updates, until they started ignoring my calls. Terrible experience with them, especially Emma Taylor. The only time she replied to my call, she was rude for no reason. She often ignored my emails, I had to contact other people from the office who would help me. They charged me more then they originally quoted. Do not recommend

I wish there is no star review possible, because they definitely do not deserve even one star.
Let’s start that our solicitor who was meant to work on our case, never called us. We have never spoken to him for 5 min on the phone. They email you back after two days, and there is no chance to get through them via phone. I have left multiple messages with receptionist but they were never returned.

After 3 months of working on our case they realised that I am married so I am not allowed to use the Help to Buy Scheme with my Father. Everything was said from the beginning, noting was hidden. After this all time of me sorting everything out and paying them all those money they said I cannot use the scheme which also means I cannot purchase the house, because we didn’t have £30 000 for deposit.
Just a shame that people recommend them.
