Overall, good. They did what they say they will - I won the claim and it was exactly in the middle of their predicted range that I would receive. Sometimes lack of communicaiton and took a while to return calls / emails but otherwise fine.

    Sara obtained her LLB (Hons) Law Degree at the University of Central England, Perry Barr in 2005, before completing the Legal Practice Course at the College of Law, Birmingham in 2006. Sara began her training contract with the Firm in 2006 and qualified as a Solicitor in the Family Department in 2008. Sara was made a Partner in 2014. Sara has experience in all types of family cases including divorce, linked financial matters and disputes regarding children. She specialises in cohabitation matters and assists with high net worth cases. Sara has a good manner with clients providing clear and concise advice.     Andrew was educated at King Edward VI Grammar School in Stratford-upon-Avon before going on to attend the College of Technology in Solihull. Andrew entered into the legal profession in 1978 as a Trainee Legal Executive and qualified as a Fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives in 1999. Andrew joined Foster Baxter Cooksey as a Legal Executive in 1989 in the Commercial Litigation Department and became an Associate at FBC Manby Bowdler in 2010. Andrew heads up the Residential Landlords Team, specialising in mortgage repossession cases and dealing with both private and commercial mortgages. He is the preferred advisor for two local building societies. Andrew also advises on private landlord and tenant matters from drafting assured shorthold tenancies, advising landlords and tenants on procedures of possession of properties and dealing with relevant notices required on deposits and all other landlord and tenant matters. Andrew also deals with all commercial landlord and tenant litigation including the serving of appropriate notices for both landlord and tenant when terminating leases with the proceedings under the 1954 act. In April 2016 Andrew was awarded the Chartered Legal Executive of the Year title in the annual Birmingham Law Society awards.

  • Paramjit Jassal

    Paramjit obtained an LLB (Hons) Law Degree from DeMontfort University in Leicester in 1998, before completing the Legal Practice Course at the University of Wolverhampton in 2001. Paramjit went on to study Domestic and International Law achieving an LLM Masters at the University of Wolverhampton. Andrew was an Articled Clerk at Vernon & Shakespeare in Oldbury and qualified as a Solicitor in 1988.   • Philip Cowell

    Following completion of his Law Degree, Phil went on to continue his legal studies at Chester Law School in 1988 before qualifying as a Solicitor in 1991. Philip joined the Firm as a Solicitor in the Family Department in 1997 and became a Partner in 2004. Phil specialises in divorce and other family matters and has particular expertise in dealing with the financial aspect of the breakdown of relationships, including high value financial settlements involving complex business assets and farming cases.     Steven studied law at University College in Cardiff, graduating with an LLB (Hons) Degree in 1978, before completing the Law Society Finals at the College of Law in Chester in 1979. Steven trained at Baker Flavell & Trafford in Willenhall, qualifying as a Solicitor in 1981. Steven joined Manby & Steward LLP as a Senior Solicitor in the Commercial Property Department in 1988 and became Partner and Head of the Firm’s Agricultural & Rural Services Department in 1994. Most recently in 2017 Steven became the Firm's Agricultural Business Principal Development Partner.     David graduated with a 2:1 (Hons) Law Degree from the University of Sheffield in 2006. He went on to complete his Legal Practice Course at the College of Law in Birmingham, achieving Distinction. David joined FBC Manby Bowdler as a Trainee Solicitor in 2008, qualified as a Solicitor in the Corporate Department in 2010 and was appointed an Partner in 2017. David advises on all aspects of company and commercial law, from corporate transactions including the purchase, sale and reorganisation of companies to non-transactional matters, particularly drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial agreements. In addition David has a growing construction law practice, dealing with both standard and bespoke construction contracts and he is also an established member of the Intellectual Property (IP), Technology & Media Law Group, advising clients on a range of non-contentious intellectual property matters, with a particular emphasis on protection of IP through the registration of trade marks as well as through copyright and design rights.

  • Niall Blackie

    Niall obtained his LLB (Hons) Degree from Exeter University in 1979 and completed the Law Society Final exams in 1979. Niall joined the Firm in 1979, qualified as a Solicitor in 1981 and later qualified by examination as a Legal Associate of the Royal Town Planning Institute in 1988. Since 1988 Niall has specialised in Ecclesiastical Law, acting for the Bishop and Diocese of Lichfield as Diocesan Registrar, first as deputy and then as the Registrar. In addition Niall also became a Solicitor Advocate in 2004 and was appointed Senior Partner of the Firm in April 2011.   • Julia Fitzsimmons

    Julia studied law at Birmingham University before beginning her legal training at DLA Piper in Sheffield. There she spent 12 years working with national and international businesses and government departments, specialising in managing the employee issues that surround business restructure. An experienced tribunal advocate with particular expertise in discrimination issues, Julia acted for a wide variety of manufacturing businesses in her next role as a legal advisor at the EEF, based in South Yorkshire. Returning to the West Midlands, Julia spent the past seven years as a Senior Associate at George Green LLP. There she supported owners, managers and manufacturing businesses with major reorganisations, including the management of industrial relations and successfully defending her clients in Employment Tribunals. Julia joined FBC Manby Bowdler as a Partner in our Employment Team in July 2016.   • Anne Thomson

    Anne obtained a BA (Hons) Law Degree from the College of Law, Chester in 1982 and began her training contract with J H Baxter qualifying as a Solicitor in 1986. Anne has over 25 years experience in Family Law and was made a Partner in 1992. Anne is the Lead Partner within the Firm's Family Department and deals with all aspects of the breakdown of relationships which has included acting for citizens of the European community and resident of the UK. She deals with matters involving jointly owned assets and often complex commercial issues involving family companies, farming cases and disposal of pensions. Anne is recognised as the leading matrimonial solicitor in the region.

  • Margaret Rowe

    Margaret spent many years’ working as a high level sales manager in retail before deciding on a change of career and moving into law. She obtained her LLB (Hons) Law Degree from Keele University in 2002, before completing the Legal Practice Course at Staffordshire University in 2004. Margaret began her training contract with a Staffordshire law firm and qualified as a Solicitor in 2005. Margaret joined FBC Manby Bowdler as a Partner in the Wills, Probate & Lifetime Planning Department in 2011. Margaret advises on all aspects of wills and probate work and elderly client matters.
