Worst solicitors I have ever dealt with - avoid at all costs!

Without any shadow of a doubt, Neves are worst solicitors that I have ever had the misfortune to deal with.

Neves dealt with my late grandfather's Will Trust since he used the firm to set it up in the 1970s, and as such when my late mother passed away in December 2015 I was forced to start interacting with the firm in order to settle the estate and terminate his Trust. The Trust should have in fact been terminated some three and a half years previously when my grandmother passed away, but Neves did not act.

What was to follow when my mother died was four years of pain and agony, trying to get some sense out of the many solicitors I had to liaise with. Incorrect advice, seizing rent payments (that should have been due to myself and my uncle) in order to pay their own bills, ludicrous ideas for how to move forward and general inconsistency and ineptitude that makes me shudder to this day.

There should be a special place in reserved for Carole Hewett in particular, a woman of such legal incompetence that I cannot even begin to describe in a short review. She ultimate took on responsibility for the file and caused numerous issues that could have easily been avoided.

I would highly recommend that you avoid this firm for ANY of your legal requirements - you deserve better.

Woefully slow and uncommunicative

My house sale was just about as simple as you could get - chain free on both sides, with a cash buyer. Despite both parties explicitly requesting a speedy transaction, these solicitors (who acted for my buyer) really dragged their feet with paperwork, and were very uncommunicative when I tried to ascertain what the delay was. When approached about this, I was brushed off and told my opinion on their service was irrelevant, since I wasn't their client. Avoid.

Terrible

Absolutely terrible. Costs significantly higher than advised, work was done wrong which they failed to inform us about but charged me for and very poor service in general.

We discussed costs at the outset. All of the work to be completed was discussed and we were advised this would take 13-20 hours. When I closed our account, without the work even being completed, we had already been charged for 24.6 hours with a further 2.5 hours on the time ledger. This is without the work even being completed. The time ledger was also inconsistent with what we had been told was owing on our account which is concerning. Obviously, when you are trusting a solicitor to charge you fairly you want to see clear consistent records with explanations for the charges. The time ledger was difficult to get hold of, I had to request it 3 times, finally contacting the complaints department. Also , work was done wrong - an application to the land registry was rejected and Neves did not even bother to tell us. I only discovered this when I contacted the Land Registry myself to find out what was going on. Shocking. There was also rude behaviour, such as ignoring emails, I had to contact the managing partner to get the solicitor to respond to us.

Neves Solicitors

Neves solicitors dealt with my late mother’s will and sale of her property. I couldn't be more impressed with the service i received.

Layla, Nadia and the team were very helpful, knowledgeable and very professional. It was a complicated situation and without their help and the help of the team, I don't think my mums estate would have been anywhere near settled. I would highly recommend Neves to anyone.

Where there is fee gouging, and poor service, there is ....

I agree with the other contributor to this unclaimed Trustpilot site for Neves.

I have had a wretched time with Neves for over 18 months on 2 fronts. Employment and matrimonial affairs. The service and support from both parts of the business are breathtakingly poor in my opinion.

The service by the now, and well overdue for retirement Mary McEvoy was inconsistent, dubious timeliness and effectiveness. All I seem to raise with the matrimonial team in Harpenden was invoices. Please don't ask for time breakdowns, you will need to wait a few months for those at times.

Employment matters handled by Fiona Hewitt in Milton Keynes, and her protector the great Peter Kelly no less were of little value, effectiveness or timeliness. After moving to a new lawyer a 100% satisfactory and speedy resolution to the matter was sorted. I negotiated 1/3rd of the proposed fees as no timesheets were provided to back up their billing.

You should avoid this establishment at all costs, as there seems to be a very exclusive club for their employees, and the customer is seldom first.

Terrible terrible terrible - in my opinion.
