Susan undertakes both publicly funded and private family work Susan specialises in the following areas: Children public law proceedings where she is appointed by Cafcass to represent Children’s Guardians. Susan has considerable experience in representing children independently in both private and public law proceedings and is an advocate of the children’s right to representation, participation and protection and to have their best interests considered. In particular, Susan represents children who are joined to private law proceedings between their parents under Rule 16.4 of the Family Procedure Rules 2010 where she is instructed by a Children’s Guardian but also is appointed directly in other cases by the court without a Guardian. Susan specialises in adoption representing prospective adopters, birth parents and children in both domestic and inter-country adoptions. She also specialises in surrogacy where she represents the commissioning parents and also children born by surrogacy. Susan is a trained mediator and collaborative lawyer as well as a child arbitrator and uses those skills in her every day work. She has excellent negotiation skills and is very experienced in working with lay members of the public and assisting them in being able to resolve disputes.
