House purchase

We had an exceptional experience with the house purchase even though it wasn’t all straight forward.
Would not use anyone else.
Great job.

Not the fastest or most responsive practice .......

The sole solicitor dealing with my house purchase was very diligent in reviewing the various documents and very easy to deal with; at first. After a short while his enthusiasm and responsiveness waned dramatically. What we were advised would take 2 to 3 months has taken almost 6 months. Most of this time was spent waiting, not knowing what was going on, not knowing what we had to do and getting little or no response to emails or phone calls. I complained to the Manager who laughed and said it's because of staff shortages and the chap doing our work was busy elsewhere. The final problem upon completion was to find that we had been charged several hundred pounds which the other party had originally agreed to pay. After months of being messed about we lost the will to argue and paid it just to avoid further delay in getting our home. The whole process of dealing with this company has been miserable and stressful.

Just what we needed

Great to have a third party, overview from outside our predicament, with an informed, experienced, professional understanding of what was required, both by our family and the other entities involved. We have looked to JW&S for professional services and advice for many years, and are very pleased with everything they have done. Doubtless we will be using them in the future also.
A particular shout out to Bernadette Summers who steered her way through a lengthy probate process, on our behalf, with endless good humour, professionalism, and kindness.

Always excellent care

I have been looked after by the staff at John Welch and Stammers since 1962.
Over the years, various members of staff have dealt with the affairs of my family through deaths, adoption, house purchases/sales and Wills always with care and patience. I would not consider going elsewhere.

Very good experience

Getting my Will updated with Mark was alot more straight forward than I was anticipating. Mark was able to efficiently and simply explain particular areas I wanted to reflect in the Will. Great experience and I would recommend Mark to others.

About this branch

Description

The firm was founded by John Welch in 1932. He was joined in partnership by Charles Stammers after the war. It was decided that the firm would retain the name “John Welch and Stammers” despite subsequent changes in the partnership and has operated from the offices on the Green since 1952. The decision not to open another branch office was made several years ago on the basis that the firm wanted to remain small enough to retain the personal touch and to provide an efficient legal service to the client at a reasonable price incorporating the ever modernising approach to technology. Over the past 85 years the personnel has changed, but due to the strong reputation and professionalism of the firm, our loyal and long standing staff and client base the impact of these events have been cushioned and John Welch and Stammers is moving forward faster and stronger than ever. During March 2012 John Welch and Stammers became the first licensed Alternative Business Structure and became an ABS on 6th April 2012. The main purpose of JWS becoming an ABS was so that our non-lawyer Practice Manager Bernadette Summers could be a partner. Although the introduction of ABS’s allows more diversity in law firms, JWS has not changed at all and will always retain its ethos as far as it’s loyal client base is concerned.
