Review of relationship with Blakewells
My family acquired two properties with mortgage from Access Bank UK. The properties were sold by Baron and Cabot in collaboration with 50W. Blakewells Solicitors was recommended by Baron and Cabot. We remitted 50% of the properties value into their account over a period of year . The agreement stated that we would be paid interest on monies kept in the firm's account on our behalf. This was never paid up. After writing mail request in respect of the interest, we spoke to Mehfooz ( the owner of the firm about this issue a couple of times, he didn't give any firm promise, he just gave flimsy excuse that the firm has several clients monies coming into the firm's account . As such identifying our funds will be difficult. We considered this excuse as not only inconsistent with the terms of our engagement but also very unprofessional) We strongly believe a legal firm with such standing will definitely have an Finance/Accounts department that will be in charge of record keeping for client monies that are paid into the firm's account. Also, when the properties were completed and handed over by the developers, completion statements were prepared for the two properties by Blakewells Solicitors. It was evident that we has excess funds in our account which we were advised vie email by a representative of Blakewells Solicitors. Our account details were requested by Blakewells for the refund which we provided. The refund was not paid into our account after series of reminders for over a period of a year or thereabout. Eventually, we had to write a mail wherein we mentioned to report to the case to the Regulatory Authority if our refund is not paid. We received responses to our mails almost immediately and the payment with immediately effect. The truth is Blakewells Solicitors gave a very negative impression about using a solicitor in the UK to receive funds on an international client's behalf for transaction. This awful experience has discouraged us from wanting to do business again in the UK.
