Nicholas is a Partner and Head of the Private Client team. Nicholas joined Bishop & Sewell following the merger with Monro Wright & Wasbrough on 1st February 2021. Having graduated from Exeter with a degree in law joined Monro Pennefather & Co as a Trainee Solicitor in 1996. Nicholas has been a Partner at Monro Wright & Wasbrough since 2003 and heads up our Private Client team. Nicholas is also the registered Training Principal for our Trainee Solicitors and has participated in the BPP Access to Practice scheme for a number of years, mentoring students on the Legal Practice Course. Nicholas advises high net worth UK and international families and trustees across a broad range of areas including tax, succession planning and trusts. He regularly advises on the creation and use of powers of attorney and trusts for the protection of vulnerable beneficiaries. He also advises a number of landed families in connection with relevant tax reliefs, such as IHT Agricultural Property Relief, and also individuals in connection with CGT Entrepreneurs’ Relief and IHT Business Property Relief, working closely with our Property and Business teams and also with the client’s investment and accountancy advisers. Nicholas was admitted to the Society of Trust & Estate Practitioners in 2007 and advises on residence and domicile issues including the statutory residence test, ownership and use of property situated in the UK and the interaction with offshore trusts.
