Jo Charlton
Solicitor - Solicitor
SRA ID: 409983
Jo is a solicitor who specialises in family law. Her work includes all areas of family law. She has a particular interest in domestic abuse cases and disputes over the arrangements for children, such as who they should live with and what time they should spend with the parent they do not live with. She also has a wealth of experience in divorce matters and their financial implications and representing parents and other family members in care proceedings issued by the Local Authority. She understands that coming to see a solicitor and talking about personal issues can be a very difficult and daunting time. She will try her very best to put clients at ease and signpost them to other agencies and services that may be able to support and assist them. She will listen to clients and ensure she knows what they want to achieve at the outset. She is committed to providing clients with realistic advice about their options and the likely outcomes for them. She is a member of Resolution, an organisation of family lawyers and other professionals, who are committed to taking a non-confrontational approach and considering the needs of the whole family and, in particular, the best interests of the children when resolving family law disputes. She is accredited by Resolution as a Specialist Family Lawyer with particular specialisms in Private Law Children and Domestic Abuse cases. She studied law at the University of Leeds before completing the Legal Practice Course at the College of Law in York. She was awarded the Legal Service Commission (now known as the Legal Aid Agency) Public Legal Services Route Prize 2005/2006 for being the best performing student in the elective examinations at York College of Law. She qualified as a solicitor in September 2009 and has practised as a family law solicitor since then.
