Failure to deliver services procured in timely manner

I engaged them in early April 2023 to review my lease and write a Letter of Claim to the Freeholder who was not responding to requests to repair a leaking flat roof. They required I advanced pay the fee. It took two months to review the lease and I never received the draft letter of claim (it is now September 2023.) e mail requests for updates were repeatedly ignored. The only way I could get a response from the solicitor was to submit a formal letter of complaint to their complaint e mail address. I did this twice. I got an apology the first time but no acceptance of responsibility by the solicitor. I was told things would proceed more quickly. They did not, and further requests for an update were again ignored. I requested a full refund of the downpayment (£700) but this e mail like most of the others I sent them has also been ignored. The "your needs and goals are always our priority" tagline on their website is a gross misrepresentation of how they operate. Unprofessional and unaccountable would be more apt in my opinion. At no point in the service was I told that the service I had procured would take more than 4 months to complete - only that it was an estimated 2 hours work. My roof continues to leak, the Freeholder continues to ignore me (and has not received any communication from the solicitor,) I lost my tenant and can't re-let until the issue is resolved. It should be stressed they were paid upfront for the service, they failed to deliver and they are ignoring requests for a refund, so there is considerable risk to the client in engaging this firm.
