Before the law, Grant enlisted in the British Army straight from school aged just 16. After a compulsory 12-months of leadership training at the Junior Leaders Regiment Royal Artillery he volunteered for Commando Forces. At a fresh faced 18 years of age, Grant passed the All-Arms Commando Course at the Commando Training Centre Royal Marines and was awarded the coveted Green Beret. He was posted to 8 (Alma) Commando Battery of 29 Commando Regiment Royal Artillery in Plymouth where, for the next decade, he trained and operated worldwide as an Arctic and Jungle Warfare specialist; military skiing instructor; artillery surveyor; military parachutist; combat driver; combat medic; diver and Platoon Weapons Instructor. A serious knee injury playing football for his Regiment caused Grant to prematurely volunteer to end his military career with 29 Commando. He swiftly left the UK to then operate in treacherous waters as a deep-sea diver on the nautical landfill project to build the then brand-new Hong Kong International Airport. A year later, refreshed and confident, Grant returned home to embark on a less physically hazardous career in the law. In his last year in the Army, Grant had studied for a University Access course with the Open University. That course enabled him to apply to university and a three-year full time LLB (Honours) degree in Business Law at Bournemouth University was to follow. Meanwhile, Grant was commissioned into the Army Reserves with CVHQ RA and in the 12-months between university and law college, Grant deployed as a Junior Officer to Kenya with his cherished 8 (Alma) Commando Battery RA in support of the Staffordshire Regiment (now the Mercian Regiment). A final year of study at the College of Law on the Legal Practice Course (LPC) brought his academic endeavours to a conclusion and in the summer of 2000, Grant started his legal career as a paralegal for a busy personal injury law firm in Guildford. Grant was admitted as a fully qualified Solicitor in November 2002 and only three years later, he applied for and achieved SRA accreditation as a Personal Injury specialist, a position he holds to this day. He subsequently worked at some of the most distinguished law firms in the UK, honing his craft and rising through the ranks to become a Partner and then Director of a specialist firm in London before setting up in business as Alma Law in 2017. He was for six years the Coordinator of the Military Special Interest group for the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL), and he is a former elected member of the APIL Executive Committee. His interest in military claims sadly arose out of the tragic death of a close army friend who, with one other, were both killed in a road traffic accident in Kenya in 2000. Grant represented those injured in the accident and the families of the deceased in a group of claims against the MOD, all of which settled out of court. Grant is a knowledgeable, well-connected, and experienced, creative-thinking solicitor and an authority in military claims. He has won £millions for his injured client’s and their grieving families and is much liked and respected by them, and his peers, for his exceptional client care and dedication to their cause. Lastly, Grant is a volunteer and past Secretary of the Hampshire branch of SSAFA the Armed Forces Charity, a member of the Royal Marines Association and he is a proud supporter of the Armed Forces Covenant.

Grant,
Just a quick line to express my gratitude to and your team for the support with my claim so far. As an ex-serviceman yourself, you've made me feel understood and valued throughout this rather arduous road we've been on for years now. Your attention to detail and unwavering support reassures me that you're in my corner, and whatever happens we'll achieve the best outcome together. Thank you.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

I was knocked off my bike by a car at a road junction, after a spell in hospital I had the daunting task of finding a solicitor to take my case on to claim damages for my injuries. I didn't need to worry as a family friend recommended Alma Law. Grant arranged a time to come over and see me and the rest is history. Grant did everything for me from appointments to see consultants and contacting insurers. So all I can say is a big Thanks to Grant and Alma Law for a pain free experience. I would have no hesitation in recommending Grant at Alma Law to represent anyone who needs a solicitor.

After contacting Greg via a few emails regarding my failed AFCS claim, he reassured me despite being a busy individual offering help and assistance. Came across as friendly but also informative, also curious about any other claims i have and could potentially claim for.

My late husband.

I would like to take this time to express my sincere gratitude and appreciation to Alma Law and Grant in particular for his sterling advice and support throughout the most painful and challenging time of my life. I lost my husband tragically overseas as part of his deployment. Being an ex-serviceman and in the same corps, Grant reached out to me. He was transparent, professional yet empathetic throughout the 2 years of us working on reaching a settlement. I highly recommend Alma Law to anyone seeking legal advice. You will not be disappointed. Thank you so much Grant and we wish you all the very best.

6 STARS - Exceptional Service

5

I was appointed Grant by the RBL for my ongoing case with Vets UK. My previous dealings with law firms was only with small claims regarding vehicle insurance however from the first telephone conversation with Grant he was very helpful and honest about the strength of my case and possible outcomes and able to putt me at ease.

I found the whole process stress free due to his input and in the end was very pleased with the outcome which was far more than I had hoped for. Since the Tribunal, Grant has kept in touch to ensure Vets UK have acted on their ruling by the court ensuring that cradle to grave approach with his client. For this dogged approach I have awarded his 6th star.

Would I recommend Grant, The answer is yes in a heartbeat. Why? Grant was Professional, First Class, Tenacious, Proactive, Approachable and for me very easy to understand regarding the law.

Honestly - I wouldn't use anybody else.

5

The most important question here is - would I recommend and endorse Alma Law had I have lost my tribunal? The answer is a definitive 100% yes.

Grant worked with me tirelessly and passionately for 5 years leaving no stone unturned in my case. His compassion and understanding of my circumstances from the start was unrelenting and his dedication which followed throughout went above and beyond what you would expect from any person, never mind solicitor.

Grants access to the best counsel, along with meticulous preparation of the case and vast evidence ensured this was a positive result from my tribunal too.

It would not be a journey I would ever want to have to go through again, however if I did, I genuinely do not think there is anyone better than Grant to be by your side.

I would be happy to recommend him personally too if anyone is unsure prior to committing to his services.

If you need help making an AFCS or WPS claim, whether you're still serving in HM Forces or are a veteran, I massively recommend contacting Grant at Alma Law. I was in rag order mentally, having been diagnosed with PTSD 7 years after leaving the RAF, and couldn’t string a sentence together when I rang Grant, I was so anxious. Grant just spoke calmly to me, suggested I take a seat even though I was on the phone, reassured me I had his full attention, and invited me to talk through my situation. Having been a solicitor myself after leaving the RAF, I know the time pressure lawyers are always under. For Grant to offer his time at my pace, was a special thing, and a marker of his excellent service.
Grant is knowledgeable, professional, and understanding. With his military experience he also understands the nuances and language of the Forces.
Very highly recommended.
