Amy Foweather is a Solicitor, Partner and Head of the Family Department at Harrowells.     Always Professional, Contactable and responsive

    I am extremely satisfied with Harrowells overall and routinely use them to manage my legal matters, but on this occasion they genuinely went above and beyond. I was going through a very emotional and difficult time, and from the outset they were absolutely on it — not only in terms of clear, practical legal advice, but also in recognising and supporting the emotional side of the situation. Pricing was transparent and upfront throughout, and in hindsight I genuinely regret not using them for my house sale and purchase, as fees elsewhere have continued to mount without the same level of clarity or value. Harrowells explored every option I raised, advised me honestly on whether each route was worth pursuing, and were refreshingly straight with me. Communication was consistently clear, respectful, and reassuring, and the speed of response and resolution was excellent. I felt listened to, supported, and well represented at every stage. I would not hesitate to recommend Harrowells and will continue to use them for future legal matters. Billing was clear and transparent, but I would recommend a phone call on a number of issues is probably more constructive than being charged a minimum amount for an email, but that is no different to any other charging model, so I don't old that against Harrowells per se. I will call out Dawn Darlison who manages the billing - she gently reminded me of anything outstanding (which I perceive is rare from other solicitors) and allowed me to put finance on account when I pre-empted, plus invoices were accurate and timely. The types of interactions I have had Harrowells manage are: Probate (for a family matter), Matrimonial/Pre-Nup and employer dispute

    I had an initial zoom meeting regarding the steps required for starting a divorce procedure, which was good. The information given was useful. But after a 50 minute zoom call, I instructed that I would be in touch once I had moved further with the divorce. I had to put money on account in order to have the initial zoom meeting which was fine. I then recieved a few emails asking how far along I was. To which I responded that I was applying for the divorce myself and I would be in touch at a later date. I was then charged for multiple emails I was sent, I was charged for responding to an email and stating once again that I would be in touch when I was ready. I was charged for the same email twice. I was then sent another invoice which was conveniently the amount I had left on my account. So in total I was charged over £600 for a 50 minute zoom call and a short email covering what was spoken about. As a customer, paying for a service. To be charged for emails I never requested and charged twice for the same email on one occasion. Basically being charged £600 for an hour or time is completely unacceptable. Especially after being told the hourly rate beforehand and it being half of that. Avoid this company.

    Hi Antony, We much prefer that our clients feel they are getting value for money in relation the advice they receive and we do try to communicate likely costs as clearly as we can. In situations where we are providing advice at selected points in a matter, with the client preferring to undertake the balance of the work, it needs to be appreciated that there are often compliance and other important record keeping activity to be completed by us before and after meetings, particularly if they are lengthy meetings. In overall terms, even if only sought on a selective basis, our professional advice can be crucial in ensuring a matter is likely to proceed in the most advantageous way for our clients and so our fees for specific matters reflect that. Nevertheless, it is helpful to have your feedback and we will look at how we communicate costs in these kinds of situation in future.
