I undertook my training contract at a firm in Preston which specialised in mental health and mental capacity law. I was admitted on to the Law Society mental health accreditation panel in 2013 and admitted as a solicitor in 2014. After the senior partner retired in 2016 I took over running the Mental Health Department and the training of new employees on the Mental Health Act. I represented clients before the Mental Health Tribunal in hospitals throughout the north from Cumbria and Northumberland down to Cheshire. I have extensive experience of every aspect of mental health law from the most serious and complex restricted cases to s2’s, 3’s and CTO’s and of mental capacity law. I then returned to my home area of Newcastle and worked as a self-employed mental health representative before joining EMG in September 2021.
