We are disappointed to hear how you viewed your experience with us. We are a highly respected and well-run local firm. We accept that a change in solicitor can cause an issue for a client, but we endeavour to minimise the effect of as far as possible. There was no delay as a consequence of the change in solicitor. We accept that there was a short delay, which did not impact on the case, due to a bereavement within the solicitor’s family. The increase in costs was as a result of proceedings issued by the other party. Your comments regarding quotations are factually incorrect. You were quoted £20,000 up to Final Hearing if matters did not settle beforehand by agreement. You and the other party both chose to dis-instruct solicitors and reach an agreement without advice. You subsequently appointed another legal firm to prepare an agreed settlement Order only, for approval by the court. Our Family services provide advice on the necessity and benefits of full disclosure, the Court’s interpretation of the Matrimonial Causes Act and drafting of appropriate documents. We charge at an hourly rate and provided an estimate to you at the outset and we then provided the advice you sought within that estimate. We always encourage separating couples to approach the process in a non-confrontational and conciliatory approach and actively encourage dialogue, as it can really assist the process and reduce hostility and the overall cost. Our hourly rates are competitive and reflect years of legal expertise in this field.
