He also deals with Deputyships. Tom is a member of The Law Society Clinical Negligence Panels. He specialises in Cerebral Palsy and Brain Injury cases and other cases of maximum severity. Tom is also a Senior Litigator member of The Association Of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL) & a member of the AvMA (Action Against Medical Accidents) Specialist Clinical Negligence Panel for a further five years. AvMA was established in 1982 and today the specialist clinical negligence panel is a highly sought after quality mark for Medical Negligence specialists Tom headed the Medical Negligence Department at BTTJ for many years and was instrumental in the Department’s renewal of its Legal Aid Franchise accreditation, the Auditor from the Legal Services Commission commenting that the Department’s procedures were the best she had seen. In October 2025 he stepped down from the position of Head of Department, remaining as a well-respected and integral part of the team. The Legal 500 has also recognised Tom, stating he is “Highly experienced, has a great case load and is popular with clients“. Tom also oversees our Family & Matrimonial, Personal Injury and Employment Departments. He spends 90% of his time dealing with Medical Negligence cases and the remaining 10% of his time overseeing the above.

    Tom took my case on back in 2022 and it has been a complex one to say the least! He has extensive knowledge and is very supportive, friendly and guides you through every step of the process.     After not knowing where to turn and battling many channels, it was a relief and reassurance to feel my case was finally in capable hands and I would take a steop back.     I contacted BTTJ with a medical negligence claims when I was still grieving and being thrown medical jargon about my fathers unexpected death. They were open and honest and helped me understand the options but also the limitations of a claim. They were there throughout the hospital investigation and inquest to talk through outcomes and explain medical and legal implications. It made a difficult and unknown process easier to navigate. Sadly, and not through the fault of BTTJ, the payout was lower than we’d hoped but again this was fully explained, challenged and other options explored. I felt fully supported throughout the process and trusted their judgement and experience. The best outcome for us as a family was to get an apology and BTTJ were able to get this formally for us which gave a sense of closure. Thank you for all your help.
