Charlotte Burkert
Trainee Solicitor
I am a Trainee Solicitor in my final seat in the Dispute Resolution team. I am due to qualify in September 2023. Prior to becoming a Trainee Solicitor, I worked in the Commercial and Corporate Finance Department and I also worked as a Paralegal in the Dispute Resolution Department. I enjoyed my time in both departments due to the variety of work and my colleagues. I studied for my Law degree at the University of Sunderland whilst living in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne. Whilst studying, I worked part-time as a Legal Assistant predominantly in the Prison Law and Criminal Defence Department assisting with preparation and attending Parole hearings and Crown Court trials. I also volunteered as a Court based Witness Support with the Citizen’s Advice Bureau Witness Service where I assisted prosecution and defence witnesses through the Court process. In May 2019, I returned to Essex and started my career at Birkett Long in July 2019. I went on to study the Legal Practice Course combined with Masters in Professional Legal Practice at the University of Law in London which I graduated from in 2021. I am an avid horse rider with 24 years experience within the equestrian world. I have owned horses from very young and continue to do so today. I enjoy spectating competitions, competing locally and training. I have a strong interest in Equine Law given my extensive knowledge of the area. I understand the issues that horse owners or equestrian businesses may meet which is why having a solicitor with equestrian knowledge is paramount when seeking legal advice and assistance. Examples of issues which may arise include, but not limited to, sale and purchase disputes, recovery of unpaid livery, veterinary disputes, livery agreements, sale and purchase agreements, equestrian business sales or loan agreements. I’m so glad I contacted Birkett Long to help resolve a problem I had at work, in particular Charlotte from the Dispute Resolution Team, she was completely on the ball, keeping me updated and completely took the stress out of the situation. She was really understanding and gave a lot of advice. Can’t thank them enough, and to top it all off I won the case!
