Family Law: Misguided at best, Unethical at worst
Birkett Long came highly recommended, but this has not been my experience.
They charged me £100,000 to get through my divorce. While they claimed it was 'in my best interest', I don't believe it was.
I highly recommend going elsewhere if you're considering getting a divorce, don't be swooned by their initial politeness or empathy.
The truth is, unless your partner is extremely cooperative, or your net worth is £2M+, Birkett Long will not be worth your money.
There are various things I was unhappy with:
- Notably, the outcome was essentially 50%.
- They charged over £2K to write and communicate about one letter to an accountant (plus numerous other instances)
- They let numerous things fall through the cracks (including not filing the correct paperwork on time, missing details)
- Overbilled me (only revealed this when I asked them to review)
- They did not have a good grasp of our priorities
On complaining of the service, I received a long-winded response from another partner reviewing matters; it essentially said "sorry you feel that way, but we don't agree". Birkett Long later revealed to me that parts of the letter had been copy and pasted from the original partner I had complained about.
I decided to take matters to a third-party law firm who told me Birkett Long also misrepresented court directions in their letter, and that I should refer matters to the legal ombudsman.
@Birkett long, please do not respond saying you are sorry to hear this has been my experience and you don't agree, again. Your handling of this has only been saddening
