Associate Solicitor

Accepting new clients via ReviewSolicitors

I am an associate solicitor and collaborative lawyer providing specialist legal advice and assistance across all aspects of private family law, with particular emphasis on assisting clients with the consequences of relationship breakdown, including dealing with divorce, financial and property issues for married and unmarried couples, as well as disputes regarding children. I particularly enjoy helping people move into the next chapter in their lives, so they can begin to plan for the future. I am a good listener which is an integral part of the role as a family solicitor as we very often see clients when they are going through an upsetting and stressful time. I combine expert knowledge of the law with a friendly, efficient and straightforward approach in order to provide high quality legal advice and representation and to achieve the best possible outcome for my clients. As a member of Resolution, I am committed to resolving disputes constructively and sensibly, always focusing on what is best for the family and offering practical solutions. I am also a collaborative trained lawyer and member of the Colchester Collaborative family law group which enables me to assist clients wishing to resolve matters through the collaborative law process. I completed my training at a multi-specialist London law firm with a national reputation and, since qualifying as a solicitor in 2007, I have worked exclusively in family and divorce law in London and Colchester. I am currently based at Knights Professional Services following the acquisition of Birkett Long LLP in June 2025.

Efficient, knowledgeable and kind

From the moment I first spoke to Shelley I knew she would be the right solicitor for me. I wanted someone who would support and guide me through the divorce process with understanding but also be firm enough when dealing with conflict and challenging situations. I would describe Shelley as a kind and approachable, yet firm solicitor, which for me was a perfect balance.

Divorce and Settlement

Shelley was always very professional and efficient for the process which took longer than expected but NOT due to Shelley. Many responses to my emails were made within 24 hours or even the same day.

Caring, Understanding and Professional

I approached Shelley to have a declaration of trust written up in relation to a property following a separation. During our initial meeting Shelley listened, asked probing but entirely relevant questions and took accurate notes. This was followed up with a confirmation of the issues discussed and the requirements we had agreed on before proceeding. All communication was friendly, professional and efficient, both with myself and my former partner when required. I would not hesitate to recommend Shelley for any family law related matters. You will be treated with kindness and respect at all times and I was very happy with the service provided.
