Gibson Kerr supported me in completing a simplified divorce with my then wife. All communication was prompt and professional with fees quoted and paid for ahead of services completed.
Having paid for the simplified divorce process (on top of fees for calls etc..) I was surprised to recieve a bill of nearly £1,000 for extras on the completion of the process (which was not complicated).
It turned out that every email I recieved was being billed, every minute of every phone call (125+VAT for a 13minute phone call) etc... I would have hoped that it was made clear to me that the £745 I had pre-paid for the simplified divorce actually only covered the filling out of a handful of forms.
In summary - professional service but be prepared to be charged for anything and everything!

Gibson Kerr Property Law Solicitors in Edinburgh helped my aged parents with their recent house sale and purchase. It wasn't a simple transaction due to one property being held by an inheritance estate and so timings and a thorough understand of legal timelines were crucial.The team team did brilliantly and we’re extremely happy with the service from Mira, Donald and Nikki, they are a credit to Gibson Kerr.

Following a severe heart attack and being told to prepare for critical heart surgery, I needed to attend to affairs in a very hurried manner, ensuring any assets based in Scotland were catered for in a suitable will. Lindsay Maclean dealt with my queries efficiently and with notable sensitivity. This was very helpful to me at an extremely stressful and concerning time. Beverley Cottrell arranged to sell a plot of land to a neighbour on my behalf. I was very sceptical that the other party would engage in a productive manner, but Beverley was wholly successful in the negotiations and managed the deal carefully through to completion. It was really quite a remarkable outcome, and I was astounded that it was achieved. I have been particularly impressed by the calm, focused manner in which conveyancing work was performed by Donald Towsey. Donald handled my few queries with clear prompt responses, and I found his communication style completely reassuring. I found the professional, courteous, and efficient business manner of each of the three people I mention above extremely refreshing. I imagine this is not by chance and is a result of careful recruitment allied to the company culture. It is most impressive, and I wish you all the best for the future.

Avoid Gibson and Kerr - Unprofessional and Overpriced
We had an extremely disappointing experience with Gibson and Kerr. They charged us £576.40 for minimal work and failed to check whether they were on our lender’s panel - something any responsible solicitor should address during initial client contact.
They also tried to charge us for submitting an offer, even though they had already done so for free. When we questioned this, their dismissive response was, “Well, we put an offer in already for free.” The following day, we checked with another solicitor who was happy to submit offers free of charge, which made us even more suspicious of Gibson and Kerr’s practices.
Don’t be persuaded by the office’s impressive location - those light bills clearly need paying! We hope any future couple considering their services ensures they check the lender board first and requests a clear breakdown of fees. Based on our experience, we strongly recommend looking elsewhere for conveyancing services.
Ultimately, we switched to Watermans, who were professional, transparent, and far more reliable.
The reason this review is 2 stars and not 1 is because they were very efficient in chasing the payment and kindly offered us a bottle of water during our visit to their offices.
We also strongly recommend reading the other low reviews for Gibson and Kerr, as many people have reported similar problems. We hope this review helps prevent someone else from making the same mistake.
