Avoid this firm if you value your time, sanity, and money.
This wasn’t my first experience with solicitors, but easily the worst. My offer was accepted on April 11, with an entry date set for May 28 — more than enough time, or so I thought.
From day one, I was passed between six different people at Carey Hughes. I completed ID and AML checks within the first week, my mortgage was approved, and I submitted all required documents without delay.
Then, just a few days before completion, they started questioning the origin of my income beyond the 6 months they initially requested. I gave them all statements, full documentation, and complete transparency, including income from Bitcoin gains, all sold within regulated UK accounts with clear audit trails.
On the day of entry, they hit me with a single sentence over email:
“As a firm we generally don’t accept cryptocurrency being used towards your deposit.”
That was it.
Despite providing GBP in UK-regulated accounts, not crypto. Despite showing proof of income, tax declarations, and all investment records. Despite the fact that everything was clear, clean, and declared. Despite having an appointment confirmed with Ceitidh, who simply didn’t show up — I was met by a secretary telling me she was in another meeting.
Even after a month and a half of delays and email exchanges, they dismissed my case again with another one-liner:
“We are unable to proceed with your transaction.”
No explanation. No accountability. No mention of policy up front. Just careless rejection and silence. Completely unprofessional and unprepared to deal with modern financial reality.
