I engaged William Sturges LLP for property conveyancing matters involving multiple units. My experience has been deeply concerning and professionally disappointing.
The firm has held £5,000 of my funds as stakeholder for over 720 days, despite contractual terms requiring release after a 10-day response period. The other party has not responded for over seven months, yet William Sturges continues to retain these funds without valid explanation.
Communication has been extremely poor throughout. Emails frequently go unanswered, telephone calls are not returned, and promised responses repeatedly fail to materialise. When I formally requested confirmation that my funds remained properly held in their client account, it took multiple requests over several months to receive any documentation. The ledger eventually provided raised significant concerns about how my funds had been handled.
In my experience, deadlines were consistently missed, incorrect notices were served, and I received conflicting advice on important matters. This caused substantial delays to property completions, resulting in additional costs and considerable stress to my business operations.
I have been forced to engage their professional indemnity insurers and make formal regulatory complaints due to their handling of my matters. After exhausting all reasonable attempts at resolution over nearly two years, I cannot recommend this firm based on my personal experience.
Anyone considering instructing this firm should carefully consider my experience and perhaps seek additional references before proceeding.
