I recently had a new will drafted at Yates Solicitors in Nottingham. This was done during Free Wills month. I noted that Yates were the only local firm participating in this excellent and worthwhile service. My business was dealt with by Michael Palmer who explained jargon to me patiently whilst assisting me in setting up my wishes. I found Michael to be friendly and efficient whilst remaining throughly professional. I recommend this firm and will definitely use Michael again should I need to make changes or indeed for any other legal matter.

Yates & Co were a firm of solicitors participating in "free will month" for March 2024. As I needed to change my will I contacted them and cannot praise highly enough the service I received from this firm of solicitors in particular Michael Palmer who dealt with my will. He was professionalism personified from day one to the day my final will was sent to me for signature and witnessing. The contents of the will were exactly as I had requested and the whole process was completed very quickly. I would have no hesitation in recommending this firm of solicitors to anyone.

Michael Palmer recently drafted a will for me. I was very impressed with the service I received. He was professional, yet friendly and approachable and made the whole process as agreeable as it could be given the subject matter! Michael offered really sound and useful advice about things I hadn't considered regarding my will, and explained complex legal jargon clearly. He was extremely patient with all the questions I asked and nothing seemed to be too much trouble. I would highly recommend him!

I was recommended this firm by the estate agents that is selling my nan's home. The lady I spoke to advised I would need to physically bring in a copy of the lasting power of attorney for my Nan. However, I don't have this as I have had to return it to the office of public guardian to remove my recently deceased grandfather. She told me it is "law" that they see the physical copy, which it isn't. I advised I can generate the firm a code on the GOVERNMENT website that allows them to access the GOVERNMENT system to see the LPA. However, apparently seeing the paper copy reduces the risk of fraud? Again, that isn't true. In fact, the office of public guardian advise on the GOVERNMENT website, that accessing the LPA on their website through a code is the most secure way to have sight of it, as the paper copy is only as accurate as the day it was sent. Whereas the one within the archives is the most up to date. I called the office of public guardian to query what I'd been advised. The person I spoke to told me this lady is wrong and to direct her to the LPA guidelines page on the GOVERNMENT website. He also told me they cannot give me an exact timeframe of when I can expect the paper copy back. This woman still wasn't willing to accept this information, despite it being readily available on the GOVERNMENT website. So I told her I would take my business elsewhere. I would advise training your staff on this matter. Telling people it is law and that this non existent law protects fraudulent use of an LPA is absurd.
Firstly, we would like to apologise for the negative experience that you have had with our Firm. In terms of the advice provided, though, we believe that our staff member is correct but for the wrong reason. To sell the property for you, we would need to comply with HMLR requirements and part of their registration process is receiving a Certified Copy of the LPA being used to facilitate the transaction. They will not register the sale of the property until this is provided, and therefore this is invariably requested by the solicitor acting for the buyer. If we did not obtain the Original in the first instance from you, then we would not be able to produce this Certified Copy, and then the transaction would have stalled. To produce a Certified Copy, we would need to see the Original LPA, and this is why our staff member has requested the same. Again, we appreciate that this has been communicated in a clumsy manner, and that this member of staff should not be getting into legal discussions on topics that she is not completely educated on, but she was right to request a copy of the Original LPA as, ultimately, this would have been required to complete the sale. To confirm, the issue has been addressed with the member of staff in question, and, in future, issues of this nature will be put through to either an available Solicitor or to one of our Wills and Probate Practitioners, so that the issue can be explained in a clearer way. Once again please accept our sincere apology for your negative experience and we hope to be able to assist you in the future.

We cannot speak highly enough of Luke and all he did for us when moving home. He was attentive, efficient, and effective. Buying and selling a house can be a very difficult time, and it often feels like you're constantly having to chase people. However, this was never the case with Luke. He responded swiftly to any questions we asked and really helped to drive the process forward. I never want to move house again (!), but if I did, I wouldn't hesitate to use Luke again - thank you.

Phoned to make an enquiry about certifying ID. Got through to a very rude receptionist who said no then hung up before I could ask anything else.
