PROTECTION CLAIMS

I was worried that my former landlord and agent never wanted to refund my deposit after leaving the apartment, without breaching any section of our agreement or damaging any items within the property. In the course of trying to find a way to get my claims, and considering my financial challenges of not being able to pay a lawyer, I came across Represent Law Limited who stood firm by me and advised accordingly. About four months down the line, they were able to assist me in getting my claims even more than I expected. Every member of the team that attended to my case were professional, kind, empathetic, and always ready to help. I will always recommend them for any case, and deserves more than a 5-Star recognition. Thank you.

Landlord Refunded deposit payment by court order

I engaged Represent Law after my landlord refused to return my tenancy deposit following 1 year and 8 months of tenancy. Despite my efforts to resolve the issue directly, the deposit was not returned, so I instructed Represent Law to take the matter forward. They took my case to Tribunal, and after the judgment, the landlord was ordered to pay back almost nine times the original deposit amount. The landlord was also reported for unlawfully renting out a council property. Represent Law handled my case with outstanding professionalism from start to finish. They assigned a highly professional lawyer to represent me, and the communication throughout was excellent regular calls and emails kept me fully informed at every stage. Importantly, they did not charge me any upfront legal fees. The case was handled under a Conditional Fee Agreement (CFA), meaning I only paid after we successfully won the case. That gave me great confidence and peace of mind. I am extremely grateful for their expertise and dedication. I highly recommend Represent Law to anyone seeking reliable and effective legal representation. They truly are the best.

Rent protection dispute

We came to Represent Law via referral from Justice for Tenants regarding a potential issue with our deposit protection. Throughout the journey communication was clear, I understand what was needed of me and what next steps would be. I was reassured through apprehension and once the case was settled, funds were swiftly sent over.

A representative from Represent Law Limited responded to this review

Hi Jason. Thank you for your review. It was a pleasure supporting you with your case. If you or anyone else ever need our support, please don't hesitate to ask. Best wishes, Represent Law

Bad Experience & Would Not Recommend

Unfortunately I can’t say that I had a good experience with Represent and I would not recommend them. In the beginning everything seemed fine enough except that they were difficult to get a hold of and not very responsive. We went months without hearing from them and the whole process was extremely slow with no updates given along the way. The worst part came after we had accepted an offer. After months long stretches of radio silence, their emails became insistent and felt unprofessional. We asked some follow up questions and for clarification in response to something that was being added in order to finalise the claim and the person dealing with this, Clark Barrett, never answered the questions and seemed to be advocating for the landlord to the point where it felt like we were dealing with their solicitors instead of our own. We asked him questions multiple times and frustratingly never got a direct response. After receiving an email from him (where my sister’s name was not even spelled correctly) on a Friday at around 8pm we took the weekend to pay and get a second legal opinion because we did not trust that he was acting in our best interests and that our rights were being protected. On Monday at 11am he emailed us again advising he could invoice us the full amount of work done on the case if we act unreasonably. This was so shocking as he had not answered the questions we had posed and seemed to be pressuring us to just accept whatever was being offered so they could be done with the case. I would not recommend them at all as they don’t seem to care about their clients once money is on the table which isn’t right. On a less negative note, my sister did speak with Martin Barrett on the phone earlier in the process and he was pleasant and helpful but the way we were treated by Clark really soured our overall opinion of Represent in the end and I wouldn’t recommend them based on our experience.

A representative from Represent Law Limited responded to this review

Dear Madam, Thank you for your review. We issued proceedings against the defendant on your behalf on a no-win-no -fee basis. You stated that at no time had you received the prescribed information for 6 tenancies thereby giving rise to potentially 6 penalties pursuant to s.214(4) Housing Act 2004. The defendant's solicitor subsequently provided information which showed that you probably had received the prescribed information for 5 tenancies. The landlord accepted that there was one breach of the legislation. We advised you that we didn't think that the claim for 6 penalties would succeed but that we would get 1 penalty. You disagreed with our assessment and instructed us to continue to seek 6 penalties. We stated that we didn't believe that that case for 6 penalties was very strong and that our advice was to settle for 1 penalty. You again stated that you wanted to seek 6 penalties. Since we were instructed under a no-win-no-fee arrangement where we took no funds on account in advance, the terms of our agreement was that you would agree to follow our advice. Our advice was that only 1 of the 6 claims would succeed and we recommended settling for 1 penalty. Regrettably, you again disagreed with this. We therefore informed you that since you didn't agree to follow our advice, we could no longer act for you on a no-win-no-fee basis and stated that we could continue to act but on a standard solicitor's rate per hour. We also informed you that from that point onwards, you would be liable for any of the landlord's legal costs if you failed to beat the landlord's offer. Following that, you agreed to accept the landlord's offer and the case was settled. After our success fee you are to receive £3,513.30 without having paid any legal fees in advance. We strongly deny that we were advocating for the landlord. We were trying to protect your position against the possible costs consequences of your failure to beat a reasonable offer made by the landlord. We have always acted in your best interest. In relation to your statement that we were rude on the phone when explaining this, we again must disagree and are sorry that you feel that way. Any conversation about the possible consequences and risks of litigation is difficult. We understand that you believed that you had 6 penalties but we had to explain the possible consequences of failing to beat the landlord's offer. which can be severe. Adverse costs of £15,000 to £20,000 aren't unknown in this area of litigation and it's part of our duty of care to our clients to explain the risks to you of such a scenario. Despite your complaint which we believe is unfounded, we're proud of our work and are pleased that we've been able to help you obtain a result. We wish you all the best for the future. Kind regards, Represent Law.

Company Run By Criminals - AVOID

I am writing to submit a formal complaint and negative review against the law firm Represent Law. I have had direct, adverse experience with the law firm, I must state unequivocally that Represent Law should be avoided in the strongest terms. Upon further investigation, it came to my attention that the firm is currently under formal investigation by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) for serious regulatory breaches amongst other findings. Represent Law operates as a crooked company run by an unsavoury bunch of individuals, to say the very least, with no redeemable attributes. The firm is highly unprofessional in every aspect. Their processes are disrespectful, and designed to frustrate clients rather than serve them. Clients are strongly advised to steer clear of Represent Law entirely. Anyone who engages their services does so at their own peril and is likely to suffer further detriment. I'm convinced the positive reviews left here are paid by Represent Law and not based on genuine experiences as I've never experienced anything like it. This review is based on verifiable regulatory status and my personal experience. All statements are true to the best of my knowledge, and I shall provide proof of my experience(s) upon request if required.

Professional, compassionate and reassuring

When I first reached out for advice, I was honestly quite nervous. I was worried that I might have gone to the wrong people, or the wrong place, and that I might end up putting myself in an even more difficult situation. It was also my first time seeking legal support in the UK. I am truly grateful to the Represent Law team. Despite my hesitation and uncertainty at the beginning, they never made me feel dismissed or treated me any differently. They handled everything with professionalism, patience and care throughout the whole process. It was a genuinely professional and reassuring service, and my solicitor was excellent. I am very thankful to the team for helping me protect and fight for my rights. After the case was successful, the payment process was also handled very quickly. In the final email I received, the last sentence said: “We wish you all the best for the future.” I don’t know whether this would touch other people in the same way, but it meant a great deal to me. Justice does protected me Thank you again.
