This covers the local authority’s main homelessness duty in England, including how a person is assessed for homelessness, what accommodation and support may be offered, and the steps to challenge or review the duty if the initial decision is unfavorable.
The main housing duty arises when a person is found to be unintentionally homeless or threatened with homelessness. A solicitor would help gather and present evidence to the local authority, apply for a review or appeal if the duty is discharged incorrectly, and advise on securing interim or final accommodation under the Housing Act 1996 and related regulations. They may also liaise with housing options, tenancy support, and, where needed, the county court for remedies if decisions are disputed.

Tagged solicitor Kathryn Lofthouse
Kathryn always kept us up to speed throughout the entire process, got back to emails promptly and was lovely to speak to on the phone. The main point to make in this review however, is that she worked tirelessly to get us over a chain imposed deadline at short notice. Thank you and Michelle for all your hard work. Rebecca and Jim
