A lasting power of attorney can ensure that your most trusted loved ones will have the authority to make both financial and personal or medical decisions for you, if you are not able to make such decisions yourself. Without a lasting power of attorney, you may lose the ability to decide for yourself who is granted this power. It can also be awfully distressing for families who find themselves in urgent need to pay bills, or make decisions for a loved one, and have to apply to the court in order to have this authority granted.
