Mr DA
A solicitors firm who are too busy to talk to their clients
I was looking to instruct a conveyancing solicitor to oversee both a sale and purchase of residential properties. I was advised to look at customer reviews before making my instruction. I decided on Parry Law as they appeared to be favourable. The firm were competent and swift in compiling the paperwork to be completed but it was when my situation didn't fit neatly into the required paperwork that Parry Law really showed their true colours. The initial stages of buying and selling of properties can be frenetic and it's generally during the first few days that you need to know that your conveyancing solicitor is actually acting on your behalf or simply collecting a fee. I had a number of urgent questions that I required legal advice on, in fact a conversation that took no more than 14 minutes with the solicitor I subsequently instructed. I emailed the Parry Law solicitor and phoned twice, only to be told that they were on a call and they'd call back. The day passed and a new day dawned with no contact at all, not even a "Hi, I apologise for not contacting you but I will call later today" or words to that effect. As alluded to my query was urgent therefore I contacted a difference firm, who, although just as preoccupied and busy, took the time to offer me the advice I needed. Despite being disappointed with Parry Law, I didn't wish to be rude and sent a further email c0900hrs stating that I had an instructed a difference solicitor therefore please close my file. A response was received from an administrator wishing me the best of luck. A call was then received at 1700hrs from the solicitor themselves asking what was it that I wanted to know. I stated that I had urgently needed the advice the previous day to which I was met with a petulant "And ?". A conversation then ensued whereby I outlined that I needed to speak with them urgently, they weren't responsive therefore I instructed a different law firm. I wish to now disclose what I was told and does not appear in any of the Parry Law marketing. Verbatim "I work under pressure and I cannot be expected to get back to you within 15 minutes or an hour of you calling". When it was explained that I merely wished to be contacted during the same day it was told "I will not promise that either" with a further emphasis on the pressure that solicitors work under. I fully appreciate the content of what was being explained but it was the insolent and petulant tone in which it was delivered that caused me the most consternation. Let's not forget that this is a service we pay for, and it should be recognised that the client is spending and potentially losing hundreds of thousands of their money therefore the pressure on the client should be taken into account too. The call was ended by the now angry solicitor spitting "Yeh, Good Luck" down the phone. I really feel as though I dodged a bullet here because after having finally got to speak to them I found them rude, unprofessional and confrontational. Oh and as a side, their automatic email response has a major typo in it which doesn't look very professional but it guess it was caused by all that pressure . . .
