I am a Family Law Solicitor and the Managing Director of SpainWilliams Ltd. I qualified in March 2000 and just 6 months later was running the Family Department at a medium-sized High Street Practice in Maidstone. Less than three years later I became a Partner. Looking for a fresh challenge, I founded SpainWilliams, initially as an LLP, in December 2005 with another Solicitor who specialised in Employment Law. She left for personal reasons in 2006 and from that time we have specialised purely in Family Law. I have built up SpainWilliams, from its small beginnings in Kings Hill, West Malling to a well-recognised, expert, specialist Family Law Practice with our main office in Ashford, and meetings offered at meeting rooms in Folkestone & Hythe, Halstead (near Sevenoaks), Kings Hill, and Tunbridge Wells. A relationship breakdown of any kind is bound to be difficult and my aim is to ensure that I take the time to listen to a client, to understand the background, their issues and concerns and to sympathetically guide them through their problems. I look for the best solution to meet their situation and ensure that they move at their own pace. My aim is that they come out of this potentially stressful time with the tools needed to move their lives forward in a positive way. I am very excited to be overseeing the current growth of SpainWilliams and to be adding to our excellent team of Family Law Solicitors with more good quality Consultant Solicitors. I constantly strive to ensure that our hand-picked team represent the best in Family Law and that we maintain the high quality and service that our clients have come to expect from SpainWilliams.

    Made a challenging time bearable

    My experience with Jo as my divorce lawyer had been excellent. My divorce was amicable but the settlement was unusual, The advice I got was clear and explained my options, why I should do what was being recommended risks if I didn’t. The court system didn’t work well and Jo took the very unusual step of contacting the judge, who had verbally agreed the financial settlement but they system was not working as it should. This saved a lot of stress and money. I’m extremely grateful as it means I can now move on with a ratified agreement. The service provided throughput has been professional, friendly and the communication excellent catering for my neurodivergent needs.

    Separation agreement

    Good advice given. Questions and problems dealt with and responses received promptly. Jo was sympathetic but practical with her advice. She put in a lot effort to reach a conclusion, sometimes dealing with queries at weekends and while on leave when necessary. Excellent service during a very difficult period. Sincere thanks Jo.

    Being a specialist divorce solicitor without ever appearing to be profiting from such a traumatic situation takes a special skill, and Jo Spain has it. While the opposite side appeared to do little other than send letters and invoices, Jo maintained total integrity throughout, keeping things respectful and focused on the fact that there were real people with painfully real emotions involved, not just "clients" with credit cards. If ever emotions were inflamed, Jo's ability to calm things down and find a way forward was incredible. No one ever wants to be in the situation where they have to recommend a divorce solicitor to a friend, but if anyone I knew needed such help, then I would have not a second's hesitation in giving them Jo's details. Professional, compassionate and with unimpeachable integrity,
