Overview Emma Wood is a Paralegal in BHP Law’s Court of Protection team based in Durham. She supports solicitors on a wide range of complex matters involving individuals who lack capacity, assisting in cases concerning health and welfare as well as property and financial affairs. Emma plays a key role in supporting clients and the wider legal team, particularly in matters involving sensitive capacity issues. She is known for her meticulous approach, strong organisational skills, and commitment to delivering high-quality client support. Experience & background Emma joined BHP Law in 2019 and has since developed significant experience supporting Court of Protection matters. She works closely with solicitors on cases involving complex capacity issues, including reviewing detailed medical and care reports, assisting with the preparation of court documentation, and supporting the progression of cases through the Court of Protection. She regularly attends hearings in support of counsel and participates in professional meetings, building strong working relationships with barristers, clerks and other professionals involved in client care and representation. Emma works closely with clients and their Relevant Person’s Representatives (RPRs), ensuring effective communication and support throughout proceedings. Her experience in client care and legal procedure enables her to manage sensitive matters with professionalism and attention to detail. She also supports the wider team through drafting briefs to counsel, preparing legal aid applications via the Client and Cost Management System (CCMS), and undertaking legal research to support ongoing cases and her own professional development.
