Hattens have been the best solicitors I've ever personally worked with and with the usual things life throws at you by middle-age, I’ve had to deal with quite a few! Since they were first recommended to me, I found out that they’re very long established (135 years I think) and that longevity clearly speaks volumes! For my part, my solicitor was Richard, who I initially spoke to just to ask some questions about leasehold and he generously spent a good chunk of his time answering my questions in a really clear, common-sense, comprehensible and comprehensive manner, all before I was even technically a client. This was not only very much appreciated, but really put my anxious layperson’s mind at rest understanding what the process would be! Being an anxious layperson, I then changed my plans and without any issue, Richard then just swapped to do my conveyancing instead. At a post-pandemic time and lots of questions from the other side to deal with, he completed everything very quickly, massively aided to be fair, by his equally excellent Legal Assistant, Audrey. Audrey is exceptional, and I say that not just from my own experience but also from the perspective of researching reviews on other practices where the most common complaints are ‘lack of communication’ and ‘slow progress’, because Audrey excels in communication and works at a rate of knots that clearly puts other practices to shame! I’ve communicated with both Richard and Audrey by phone and email, and they are also really nice to liaise with, which might sound fluffy and irrelevant to some but I’m sure I’m not alone as a layperson in finding it a bit daunting speaking with legal professionals! And talking of communication, in addition, I never called the switchboard and wasn’t answered, and if ever I left a message my call was always returned promptly. From their other reviews it looks like Hattens’ fees are very competitive for Essex, which is great, though I didn’t actually bother to shop around after the initial contact because I just felt in safe hands, and believe me, it’s really NOT worth saving a few hundred on your conveyancing and risking the slow progress, poor communication and consequent problems such as sales falling through, that - judging by their online reviews - seem to be all too common amongst legal practices; you’ll regret that, but you won’t regret paying for a positive experience! So if you’re reading through online reviews before deciding which solicitors to use and you’re looking for a high-quality, experienced yet approachable solicitors that you can rely on to communicate with you, and to progress your case (as) quickly (as possible from their end!), I can only say that Hattens is a great choice.
