Overview Ellie Phillips is a Senior Solicitor Apprentice based in BHP Law’s Darlington office, with experience spanning multiple practice areas including Court of Protection, Family Law, Dispute Resolution, Debt Recovery, and Commercial matters. She is currently in the final stage of her apprenticeship and is preparing to sit the Solicitors Qualifying Examinations, with the aim of qualifying as a solicitor in 2026. Ellie is now gaining further specialist experience within the firm’s Commercial teams as part of her training, building on a broad foundation of both contentious and non-contentious legal work. Alongside her legal training, Ellie has demonstrated a strong commitment to developing the next generation of lawyers, having established and launched the firm’s annual Year 12 and Year 13 Work Experience Programme. Experience & background Ellie has completed over five years of structured legal training at BHP Law, during which she has gained experience across a wide range of departments. Her work has included Court of Protection, Family Law (both public and private), Dispute Resolution, Debt Recovery, and Commercial practice areas, giving her a well-rounded understanding of both advisory and contentious legal work. Throughout her apprenticeship, Ellie has supported solicitors on a diverse caseload, contributing to case preparation, client communication, legal research, and document drafting. This experience has enabled her to develop strong analytical skills, procedural awareness, and the ability to manage competing priorities across different areas of law. She has recently transitioned into the Commercial teams to complete the final stage of her training and further strengthen her experience in business-focused legal work. In December 2024, Ellie graduated from Northumbria University with First-Class Honours in Law and Legal Practice. In recognition of her academic performance, she was also placed on the university’s Honour Roll. Additional Contribution In addition to her training, Ellie has played a key role in widening access to the legal profession. She designed and established BHP Law’s Year 12 and Year 13 Work Experience Programme, which now runs annually and provides students with insight into careers in law and professional services. Approach Ellie is a highly committed and diligent legal professional who takes a structured and analytical approach to her work. She is focused on developing strong technical capability across multiple practice areas and is known for her attention to detail, reliability, and willingness to take on complex and varied work. She combines a strong academic background with practical legal experience and is committed to delivering high-quality support to both clients and colleagues as she progresses towards qualification.
