My solicitor was personable, knowledgeable, approachable, and professional throughout the matter. She achieved the settlement outcome sought and ultimately delivered on the key objectives and commitments that were agreed at the outset. However, whilst the outcome was satisfactory, I did not feel particularly well supported during the process. There were persistent delays, rearranged appointments, and periods where communication felt reactive rather than proactive. I often felt that I was having to drive the case forward myself and that insufficient time was available to fully understand the wider context, strengths, risks, and strategic options available to me. As a result, I do not feel I received the level of guidance, challenge, or case management I had expected when engaging a private solicitor. Whilst I am not dissatisfied to the extent that I would make a formal complaint, and there was undoubtedly value in the advice provided, I would not choose to instruct the firm again in similar circumstances. In hindsight, I believe I would have been equally well served by continuing with my union representation. My overall impression is that the quality of the legal work itself was sound, but that workload pressures may have limited the time available to provide the level of support, responsiveness, and strategic engagement that I was seeking. The instructions given were carried out, but not in a manner that matched the reputation that led me to instruct the firm in the first place.
