I deal with a wide variety of matters affecting employers and employees. I enjoy the technical challenges Employment Law involves, as well as the people-oriented focus, I aim to resolve situations in a way that allows the employer and employee to move forward positively. I advise on internal matters, including grievances and disciplinaries, restrictive covenants, and the application of and obligations arising under TUPE. I have an interest in the law on whistleblowing. I have experience of handling all types of Tribunal case, including all kinds of discrimination and victimisation, as well as unfair and constructive dismissal. I also have significant experience in the Employment Appeal Tribunal; for example, in 2013 I successfully defended an appeal against a Judgment that a claim for disability discrimination was out of time. I undertook the Bar Vocational Course at Nottingham Law School and cross-qualified as a solicitor in 2008. I have practiced Employment Law since 2003, beginning my career in a consultancy representing employers at Tribunals. I moved to work for a large national law firm, representing companies and employees in Employment Tribunal proceedings, as well as advising on employee relations issues. I have been published in the industry publication ELA Briefing. I pride myself on developing a good rapport with clients so that they appreciate that I understand the outcomes they are looking to achieve. Comments include the following: “I would like to put on record, formally, my deepest appreciation to you for all your hard work in getting us to this point. From the outset I have found you to be hugely professional, incredibly thorough, very clear in all your explanations (both written and in discussion), patient and conscientious in all that you have done.” I graduated in law from the University of Liverpool in 2001. Before joining Lyons Davidson, I worked as an Employment Advocate representing Respondent employers in Employment Tribunals.

Pragmatic lively EDI training session
David and Simon delivered a lively EDI training session, full of interaction to highlight some gritty points in a way that could easily have been dull. We had some great feedback internally and look forward to having them back for the next session .

Equality, diversity and inclusion (ED&I) training
Simon and David delivered a one day ED&I training session to our Leaders and it was fantastic. This was the second training session that Simon and David have delivered to our team and they have perfected the ability to ensure that our objectives are met and that all of the delegates have a great time learning. This session provided an overview of the law, lots of great real cases, brilliant scenarios for the team to work through and much laughter. We find this a really effective way to learn and I would highly recommend both Simon and David.

Engaging & Interactive Employment Law Training
Dave & Simon delivered training to a group of our Partners, covering Managing Absence & Performance and Disciplinaries & Grievances across 2 days. The sessions were both really engaging and informative, leaving our Partners thinking about employment law slightly differently and gave them more confidence when dealing with employee related matters. The sessions were interactive and they made the 2-days really engaging for all. Thanks so much both, look forward to the next training sessions!

Friendly and responsive
I dealt with David, and found him to be very personable as well as professional. He was happy to provide clarification and reassurance around wording and processes to a layman, and was quick to respond to queries. David chased the other party involved without prompting, and I feel I received an efficient and friendly service.

Superb solicitors
Over the last month I have had the pleasure in working with David, he has helped me sort a awkward, not so pleasant work matter out. From start to finish, David has communicated everything with me, been super helpful and most importantly he is very knowledgeable! Wouldn’t of changed anything, would highly recommend if anyone needs any help.
