Kelly has practiced exclusively in Family law for over 15 years. Kelly regularly advises on Schedule 1 Children Act applications, TLATA applications, nuptial agreements, cohabitation agreements and separation agreements. She also has extensive Court experience dealing with children disputes (issues of residence, contact, specific issues and prohibited steps) including grandparent’s rights. She provides realistic practical guidance together with a tailored personal service. She offers a range of strategies to help resolve issues of separation quickly whether client led, mediation, negotiation or other forms of Dispute Resolution. Kelly has practiced in a variety of Courts across the country having completed her first degree in Business and Legal Studies in South Wales before successfully completing the Common Professional Exam and Legal Practice Course. Kelly returned to Yorkshire in 2011 and continued to work as an Associate for many years in Sheffield and Chesterfield before moving on to be the Head of the Family Department at Favell Smith and Law Solicitors based in Sheffield and the Peak District. In 2019, Kelly joined Consilia Legal as a Senior Associate Solicitor and decided to extend her skill base further by passing the mediation foundation training with FMC. She is currently working towards accreditation to become a fully qualified mediator which will accompany her legal work.

    High Costs with No Meaningful Outcome

    I had a very disappointing experience with Consilia Legal. It turned out to be a complete waste of time and money. I was paying significant amounts for over a year, including costs related to matters I later found out I was not even properly subject to. There was a clear lack of consistency and professionalism. What the solicitor communicated in emails often did not match what was reflected in the court orders, with key points missing. This caused confusion and, ultimately, no meaningful progress in my case. I also requested proof of the work done against the invoices charged, including correspondence and a breakdown of services, but did not receive a proper response. This raised further concerns about transparency and billing. After more than two years as a client, the outcome has been extremely frustrating. Despite the high fees, nothing substantial was achieved, and the situation has only become more complicated, especially with recent court developments. In my opinion, choosing this firm was a huge mistake. I would strongly advise anyone dealing with a family matter to carefully consider other options before proceeding. Based on my experience, I do not feel the service justifies the cost at all.

    Mediation experience

    While in the end we did not need to proceed with the mediation process for a review of an existing and long-standing Consent Order, the initial meeting and discussions exploring the issues and desired outcomes was extremely useful. The team at Consilia were very professional and easy to talk to, especially as some subjects are inevitably contentious. I would recommend Consilia if you are looking for a mediation service.
