Scott Whyte

Managing Director

Scott joined Watermans in late 2010 with a little over a years experience as a solicitor behind him, but he wasn't going to let something like a lack of experience hold him back. In January 2014 he completed the purchase of Watermans and became Managing Director. "Watermans is a very different place now to what it was back then. We’ve grown in size, in stature and in the range and quality of the services we offer to clients. That sounds like the execution of a great plan, but in fact it has come from someone who says he had 'absolutely no idea what he wanted to do until he was about 30' – but I definitely knew that I didn’t want to be a lawyer. It clicked for me when I had the chance to take over and lead the business. That’s when I realized what I really wanted to do and what I was best at…and from there I’ve never looked back once". Growing the business by leading and creating opportunities for others to grow in their own career are what really light the fire in Scott. “It’s always been so important for me to try and provide the best environment I can for people to join Watermans and have the opportunity to realise their full potential. That applies to anyone in any role in the business and I’m blessed that there are so many people here who’ve embraced that, joined me on the journey here and been hugely successful in their career.” Scott’s emphasis on “not wanting to come across like a lawyer – well at least not that kind of lawyer” has shaped the business and the brand that Watermans is today. Daring to be different and breaking away from the stuffy and unapproachable norms of the legal industry have always appealed and brought success to Scott and Watermans as a whole in equal measure.
