Awful

I completely agree with the previous review regarding David Starkey. You meet him and he seems nice and promises to help. Once they have your money he is extremely unprofessional and believes every lie that the expensive other legal firm says about you and is no help whatsoever! You complain to the firm and even though you have a witness and errors have been made mysteriously the errors are ignored as can't be found in the files and your statement and witness statements ignored. You then complain to the legal ombusndman and they lie to try and get out of that! Avoid at all costs!

Avoid for any child access issues

Avoid this solicitors for Child Access cases - had to change solicitors AWAY from these due to what I can only describe as incompetence and showing absolutely no backbone or desire to win a case.
In my personal experience with this company they are happy to nod their heads at all the other (bigger) companies in the area and sit, stay and roll over on demand, at these companies request - but happy to take your money, make countless communication errors and not show any accountability for their own (proven) mistakes.
If you actually have a case and want them to listen to you rather than just assume "its just like all the rest" then once again, AVOID this company, my personal experience shows they do not listen nor read all communication.
You wont be able to get hold of your solicitor directly, in my case I dealt with someone on the telephone or email, who I honestly thought was on some kind of work experience placement, not someone with any legal degree.
When you ask "management" to then intervene to look at the proven issues - they, of course, stand by their own, and refuse to take ANY accountability for the actions and lack of effort made by "one of their own".
It saddens me to write this as I truly had hope from this company as our initial consultation was promising, turns out it was just hype.
Heed this advice, avoid at all cost if you wish to use this company for any child access matter - my new solicitors are brilliant.

Excellent service

We were advised to contact James Gass at John Hodge solicitors and we have not been disappointed. Having had sound advice about one property we’d been considering fir my elderly mother, which we then stopped proceeding with, when we found something very much more suitable, we asked James Gass to act in our behalf. That in itself tells you how satisfied we’d been with the guidance and advice we’d received. BUT tbhere is another important member of the team, Rachel Hubbard Allen. She was unfailingly kind, helpful and informative and, in the middle of the Covid pandemic, was reassuring that we would complete on the purchase for my Mum. Rachel gave me time to explain the circumstances and listened to my concerns. In a nutshell she showed me empathy and sympathy and that inspired such confidence. Yes, all is now satisfactorily concluded. When the time comes to sell the property my Mum is in, we shall be asking for them to act again for us. I don’t think there’s a higher recommendation than that!

David Starkey has been consistently brilliant in his handling of my case

It does help you as a client do the majority of the legwork, draft responses to court etc., to keep costs down.

David is always understanding and efficient and has never made me feel like a number.

My case is still on-going and should conclude early next year

Document certification

I just stopped in to Hodge Solicitors to make an appointment with a solicitor to certify a copy of my passport. The receptionist wouldn't give me an appointment because they would need to know me for "a number of years" to verify my identity before they could certify any documents.....I mentioned I had plenty of identification, that didn't matter. I know what solicitor NOT to use when I buy my next house! Unfriendly, unhelpful and a very unsatisfying experience.

EXECUTION OF A WILL

Absolutely disgraceful service . My late mother in law made this company her executors of her will . How can you miss paying out two beneficiaries of her will . Well that is exactly what happened here . The monies have been repaid to this company to forward on to the two charities for payment

BRITISH HEART FOUNDATION

WESTON HOSPICE CARE

I would strongly advise you steer well clear
