I employed Butterworths to do the conveyancing on a new build property I was buying. First of all they miss quoted on the fee, but I was under pressure to move so accepted the new more expensive fee. After a month of hearing nothing from them I phoned to find nothing had been done other than to email the sellers solicitor whom had not responded. When I asked why I had not been contacted about this I was met with silence. It took them 3 months to complete this job. I managed to actually speak to my solicitor about three times during this process as he hid behind his legal assistant whom appeared to be employed as a firewall between the client and the solicitor. In month three I asked the assistant how many conveyancing jobs they were dealing with and was informed they had 150 jobs running at once. This explained why it took a week for each item to be dealt with. Butterworths have a team of sales admin personal whose purpose is to bring in business with no concept as to whether the business can be processed in a reasonable time frame. When the hits the fan they all go into hiding claiming to be unavailable or off sick. Extra charges pop up that a professional solicitor doing conveyancing would know about in advance. I had to pay for around 3k worth of temporary accommodation while waiting for Butterworths to complete the work, quite frankly they care very little for their clients with no empathy at all for how they effect peoples lives. Also my sellers were always referred to as the "other side" like we were in some kind of legal battle in court! The only time they paid attention was when I threatened to camp outside their office with a sign saying "homeless due to Butterworths Solicitors". When the conveyancing was finally completed we paid the fees and moved into our new home. A few weeks later we received an email from our Butterworths solicitor asking for another hundred plus pounds which they had in error failed to charge. I can only repeat UNPROFESSIONAL AND UNCARING. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

Went to Jonathan for advice for a family member after a car accident, Jonathan was very straightforward , friendly and full of advice, so we moved from previous solicitor to Butterworths, I cannot rate the service he gave higher, friendly, prompt, professional, the way he talks, guides and acts , is a credit to Butterworths,

We sold our house through the auction and paperwork was dealt with quickly and Laura kept us updated all the way through. Eventually found a property to buy and again Laura proved to be amazing and we managed to get everything through very quickly.

This review is for a different branch.
A very poor experience, avoid Butterworths.
A very poor experience, with delays and incompetence at each stage.
A simple conveyancing issue, with a slight complication in a court order to be enforced. Many delays and poor communication, and when the court order was finally enacted I wasn't informed until I chased the court myself - only to be informed that my solicitor had been informed a month earlier.
My Butterworths solicitor claimed that she needed legal advice before dealing with that - the irony! I have no doubt that if I hadn't contacted the court myself I'd still be waiting for Butterworths to deal with the issue. My first mortgage offer expired after several renewals, I still don't know whether Butterworths had even attempted to deal with the court at that point.
They did offer to reduce the bill by £180 to reflect the poor service, but then increased their quoted court application fee from £100 to £400! The final bill was far in excess of the quote, with no unexpected events to justify the increase.
Finally, on completion day they refused to give a completion statement showing their fees until after completion. They gave 3 separate figures on the day, ranging from £4,200 to £33,600, and the final figure wasn't any of the 3 given. No explanation given for the differences.
My advice would be to steer well clear of Butterworths.
