My Brother-in Law died eighteen months ago. Despite repeated requests from my 83 year old sister ( who spent nine weeks in hospital with a broken leg and hip during the saga) and my niece (who was suffering from cancer and subsequently died), the estate and probate has still not been settled.
To cap it all, my sister has just been informed by her late husband's bank, that she did not need a solicitor, did not need to apply for probate and that Thompson and Cooke had a moral obligation to advise her accordingly.
I have used several firms of solicitors through the years, and this practice is by far the worst, most money grabbing, unethical and useless I have ever come across.
Avoid like the plague!!

Don’t normally do reviews on stuff but this time I’ve made an exception..
We’ve just moved house and our conveyancing was handled by Mary Dempsey of Thomson and Cooke.
And what an absolute superstar she was!
From start and in particular at the end she moved heaven and earth to get the process completed and really went out of her way for us.
An absolute gem of a lady and Thomson and Cooke are so lucky to have her!

I received a very poor service whilst using Thompson and Cooke solicitors and I would advise anyone considering using them to avoid.
I instructed Mary Dempsey on the 15th of July. More than 4 months later I still hadn’t received my local authority searches from her despite paying for them on the 27th of August.
On one occasion it took 3 weeks for my email to be acknowledged and when it finally was there was no apology from her.
She ignored emails from my mortgage advisor asking for information until I made a complaint about it.
After more than 4 months of working with her I still had no idea about when completion would happen.
I never once received an update from her without having to chase for it and when I did it would be very brief and offer no explanation about what was actually causing delays.
Overall there’s just a feeling of a total lack of care and I ended up having to find another solicitor to take over.

The quotation was provided which was very competitive and done speedily.
Throughout the entire process, Nigel the solicitor dealing with the property sale was fantastic. His manner, professionalism and communication could not have been better.
