Withholding information

Pellys Hitchin Acted on my behalf - there were issues outside of their control so not too much of a concern there; delays happen. However, I have afterwards attempted to obtain some correspondence that they submitted on my behalf and my request was passed to their Data Protection Officer, Ian Kettridge at the Bishop Stortford branch.

I strongly believe that they have been intentionally misleading with me and dishonest in an attempt to avoid providing me with my information. Mr Kettridge even claimed on one day that he had my request printed off and he would be replying within 1 working day, and then several days of chasing later, he finally returns my call and admits he has no idea what information I was asking for.

I have submitted complaints to the Information Commissioner's Office, to Pellys themselves, and reported them to the Solicitors Regulation Authority.

I am not sure what they're trying to hide but they're approach and lack of explanation for the same has left me seriously concerned.

One of the employees admitted that they have no training in the GDPR (data Protection) despite training being, as I understand it, a requirement for businesses in the UK - and I would have thought data protection compliance should be important to a law firm.

I will willingly remove my review of their service if they comply with my request for information.

Bad experience for conveyancing

I wouldn't recommend Pellys, I used them for my conveyancing and had quite a bad experience. The whole thing took 4 months and a half despite not being in any chain, I had to phone my leaseholder myself as Pellys was just ready to send yet another email to follow up after 1 month without any feedback, and just to discover that a letter had indeed been sent but conveniently never received by the solicitor. I also been blatlantly lied to when given an exchange and completion date on the phone, only to be told that nothing was ready when I showed up at the agreed date for signature of the contract. When things finally went through 4 weeks later, Pellys forgot to let me know that my mortgage repayment would still be transferred by the bank even after completion, which put me in overdraft as I wasn't planning for it. All over, these 4 and a half months have been very stressful and not a very smooth experience at all.

Financial arrangements and divorce

Martin assisted me with a divorce and separation of financials, which has all just been finalised. He's fab very knowledgeable and confident just what you need when dealing with such a life changing event. He gave me the confidence to get things done and I am surprised at how quickly this matter has been resolved enabling me to start to build my future. Which thanks to Martin is definitely a lot brighter than I first thought.

House Purchase

I have just used Claire Bell for the second time and, once again, she has provided an excellent service. The first time was for a house sale and this time for a house purchase and, in both cases, her and her team always kept me informed of what was going on and I always had completely confidence in her. She always returned my calls promptly and it was never any trouble if I wanted to go in and see her. It is really comforting to have the personal touch and know that the person providing the service knows exactly what they are doing. I will definitely be using her service again in the future.

A pleasure

It is with great pleasure that I can say I know you and consider you a close colleague. Mainly because you have been so supportive of me in various different aspect of my life, rather than I supporting you, but I hope one day that I can return your kindness. My personal circumstances have been challenging to say the least. With my separation, divorce and the ex-wife abducting my children to Slovakia, you have made yourself available to me with very sound advice. One of the aspects of your advice that I find priceless, and refreshing is your honesty. Sometimes 'brutal honesty', but that is something I have a great respect and appreciation for, because that is what I need to hear. Not the fluffy skirting around an issue, but to be told things straight... and sometimes coupled with your very dry sense of humour (that some may consider on the slightly 'weird' side!) You have also supported me in my business when certain businesses have refused to pay and messed me about. Again, giving me sound and very direct advice when and where needed. I do hope one day I will be able to support you in your business or in life. I wish more legal professionals were like you (with your honesty and integrity). I have had to deal with solicitors at various chapters in my life and I must say that you're a refreshing and very positive change! Thank you!

Excellent Solicitor

Claire Bell at Pellys has recently completed the Transfer of my fathers property. To make sure we completed before the increased Stamp Duty deadline, she and her team went above and beyond to complete the transaction. She was extremely professional as well as very friendly and informative and we are very grateful.

Pelly’s conveyancing team

Very happy with Claire Bell and the team despite pressures caused by new stamp duty rules and charges coming into force 1st April 2025.
Claire is a great leader of the team and her professionalism shines through when it really matters. Claire is dogged and focuses on detail and leaves no stone unturned. She is so good at knowing when to push the other side, which paid dividends for me.
I thoroughly recommend her to be your conveyancing solicitor.
