John Clegg is a truly brilliant solicitor and I would and in fact do recommend him on a regular basis to anyone struggling to navigate the Sheffield Family Court. I’ve been a client of Howells for over seven years now but before that I dealt with several firms of solicitors in Sheffield. Howells was recommended to me as a firm that was particularly good at protective injunctions in cases of domestic violence. Of all of the firms I’ve dealt with, Howells, and in particular John Clegg, is the one I rate most highly, in terms of professionalism, cost effectiveness, common sense, and most importantly human kindness.
I never wanted a family solicitor in the first place, in that who does, but now that I’ve found John Clegg, at least I know I won’t ever have to choose one again. John is highly intelligent and meticulous in his research and preparation, and he’s also experienced and authoritative, super responsive and very diligent. He really listens to your instructions and is both patient and tenacious. John also has an excellent grasp and extensive experience in situations of domestic abuse and coercive control, including those that are complicated by false counter allegations.
However what makes John Clegg really stand out as a family solicitor is his kindness. It’s not just his communication skills, and sense of humour, although both are outstanding, it’s the fact that’s he’s a genuinely good man, fair and honest, and highly principled. He’s never too busy to explain his logic or relevant points of law and his advice is always sound and from the heart as well as legally correct.
I’d recommend John Clegg to either mums or dads trying to sort out child arrangements or finances in the Family Court, because he never waivers in his commitment to child-centricity, to fairness and integrity, whilst trying to get the best arrangement he can for you. John can be fierce when he needs to be and he knows how to protect his clients but he’s always calm and professional with it. I’ve watched other lawyers leg each other over even in Court but one of the things I particularly like about John is he never sinks to their level. He has your back but he also hears what both sides want and he genuinely tries to resolve matters for his clients in a way that works for everyone involved, as quickly and simply and possible. That’s a rare and special thing, that ability to drown out the noise of the Family Court, and focus on what children and parents need.
Whilst I did consider being a litigant in person to save cost, I can honestly say that every penny I’ve spent on John Clegg has been money well spent. He’s made every effort to keep my costs down, he’s gone above and beyond every time, and he’s been the staunchest defender of my interests in the Family Court. When it came to protecting us, all of the authorities I went to for help escaping domestic abuse let us down, and some of them actually made it worse, but John has never once failed us. He’s been the calm in the eye of the legal storm for me throughout a long and incredibly difficult few years. If you’re looking for an expert family lawyer in Sheffield, who’s used to dealing with CAFCASS, Safeguarding, the Police, IDAS, the Family Courts, and all the rest of it, and with both child arrangements and financial matters, then John Clegg is undoubtedly the solicitor you need.
