Temporary accommodation covers housing provided by local councils while someone is homeless or waiting for settled housing under immigration or housing law. A solicitor practises by reviewing eligibility and the status of the local authority’s duty, challenging any missteps in assessments, and handling homelessness applications, reviews, and appeals to the county court if a decision is incorrect. They draft statements, gather evidence of priority need and vulnerabilities, and negotiate with housing officers to secure a lawful interim arrangement.
Where a solicitor protects your position
The key protection is the local authority’s duty to provide interim accommodation when homelessness or imminent homelessness is established, and any appeal or review of that decision. A solicitor ensures the duty is properly engaged, tight timelines are followed, and the client’s right to suitable, safe interim housing is argued with clear evidence and proper formal steps.
