Colette is a Solicitor specialising in all aspects of private Family Law work. Her vast experience primarily relates to the resolution of issues arising out of relationship breakdown, particularly financial matters and arrangements for children. Colette has dealt with a wide range of financial cases, including complex and high net worth disputes. This includes cases involving significant property portfolios, business interests and high value pensions. She has vast experience representing clients involved in disputes regarding children, both between separated parents and with wider family members, e.g. grandparents. Colette regularly advises clients in relation to Parental Responsibility, Child Arrangement Orders, Specific Issue Orders, and Prohibited Steps Orders. Colette also has broad experience in drafting pre-nuptial agreements and cohabitation agreements at the outset of relationships, and Separation Agreements as parties agree to go their separate ways. Colette understands that family law clients appoint a Solicitor at a very difficult time in their lives because they require compassionate but straightforward and effective advice and representation. Colette strives to provide this, offering realistic advice and decisive action to secure the best possible outcomes for her clients. She has a reputation for dealing with cases in a sensitive manner, but with a robust approach and methodical efficiency. The majority of Colette’s work originates from referrals and recommendations, which is testament to her abilities. Professional background Colette qualified as a Solicitor in 2002, after achieving a First Class Law Degree and a Distinction in Legal Practice (for which she received an award from Liverpool Law Society). Colette undertook a training contract at another Merseyside firm, where she stayed after qualifying in 2002 as an Associate Solicitor before progressing to become Head of the firm’s Family Law Department. After over 18 years, Colette moved in 2018 to Head up the Family Law Department of a well-known, award-winning firm in Liverpool. Colette then joined the team at Spence Family Law in early 2023 to continue to build upon the firm’s success as a specialist Family Law practice. Colette is a Member of the Law Society’s Family Law Accreditation Scheme, a recognised quality standard for family law practitioners. The accreditation is dependent upon members demonstrating a high level of competence and knowledge in family law. Colette is also a Member of Resolution and a Member of the Liverpool Law Society’s Family Law sub-committee. As a member of Resolution, Colette works to resolve matters for clients with minimum acrimony and expense, where appropriate. Personal Interests Outside of work, Colette enjoys nothing more than spending time with her family and friends. She also enjoys travelling, reading, walking, and good food.
