Shane qualified as a solicitor in 1997 and became a partner in a prominent local Legal Aid Family Law practice in 2007. Having retired from partnership, Shane joined Clifford Johnston as a consultant solicitor. He has dealt with thousands of cases in his more than 25 years in the law as it applies to families and their needs giving him a wealth of both legal knowledge and practical experience. Shane spends most of his time in the specialist field of Private Client work, meaning he advises on and drafts the Wills and Lasting Powers of Attorney that all families should have, as well as in the planning and managing of his clients’ assets, working closely with a team including a trusted Independent Financial Advisor and Accountants where required, in order to provide a bespoke package for each client’s needs. Shane also specialises in assisting families after the death of a loved one, both with the process of seeking Probate or Letters of Administration where required, and reporting on Inheritance Tax to HM Revenue and Customs, as well as the efficient administration of simple and complex estates, including any advising on any variations to a Will that Beneficiaries may benefit from. Shane is also an expert in the law relating to relationships; he has drafted hundreds of Cohabitation Agreements, or Prenuptial Agreements, and has advised on property rights upon separation and divorce and the division of matrimonial assets, as well as drafting Trust documents to reflect and confirm the proportions of a property owned by two or more individuals. Shane is a former Chair of the Stockport Law Society, a former Chair of the Four Heatons Traders Group. He is a Dementia Champion and a member of the Law Society Private Client Section. Shane is a regular guest speaker on issues of law for Signpost Stockport for Carers which is a charity supporting those who care for their loved ones who are living with illness or disability, including those with a diagnosis of dementia.
