Mary Rose studied languages at the University of Sussex before converting to law. She worked at Brighton Law Centre and was then Chair of the Management Committee while studying law. She then worked for Brighton Council until she joined Howells Solicitors in 1989 as an Articled Clerk (Trainee Solicitor) and joined the Criminal Department when she qualified in 1992. She became a Duty Solicitor 12 months after qualifying, and joined the Partnership in 2004. Mary Rose leads the Crimal Defence teams at Rotherham and Barnsley and is often found representing clients accused of criminal offences throughout South Yorkshire’s Magistrates Courts. She is an expert in her field and has a particular knowledge of Youth Court work and cases involving mental health issues. Mary Rose also appears before local authority Licensing Committees on behalf of taxi and private-hire drivers, and represents at appeals to the Magistrates’ Court. Mary Rose is an active member of the Sheffield Esteli Society, the twinning organisation with Sheffield’s twin town of Esteli in Nicaragua, and was part of the delegation that visited there in 2014.

    From the moment I met Mary Rose Macadam she made me feel very at ease and my nerves calmed down. I had an hour appointment at first and she asked lots of questions to get a better understanding from my side of the events. I also had many questions to ask and she answered every one, Giving me a lot of knowledge of what to expect on the day of the court date. On the morning of the court date I met Mary Rose Macadam for a quick meeting probably an hour before I was called in to the court room. A very stressful situation but as soon as Mary Rose started to represent me it seemed to ease me slightly. She represented me perfectly and I would definitely recommend anyone that needs help to contact Howells Solicitors.

    Supportive and Trustworthy

    What a journey! And that’s exactly what it is when confronted with potential life changing situations. The time it takes and the need to sometimes have a face to face with a solicitor you trust and takes all the legal lingo and conveys it so you can understand. You need to trust them deeply as again can hold your future life in there hands and that’s why I’d recommend Howells.

    I went into criminal court terrified and overwhelmed, and Mary Rose Macadam was the one person who made me feel safe and supported.     Mary-Rose is an exceptional solicitor who understands the complexities in cases where I imagine many wouldn’t. Mary-Rose will be honest, tell you how it will likely be, but take your case understanding the facts which proved vital in my case.
