Jen specialises in family law. Her expertise includes divorce and financial separation, cohabitation (TOLATA) claims, relationship agreements (cohabitation and separation agreements), private law children cases, domestic abuse, non-molestation injunctions, occupation order applications and change of name deeds.
Although the bulk of Jen’s time is spent dealing with family law cases, she continues to represent clients in the criminal courts on a privately funded basis, specialising in motoring offences, including drink driving, careless and dangerous driving, speeding, tachograph offences, licence and insurance issues and vehicle and driver fault cases.
Jen is a skilled and experienced advocate, appearing in Magistrates, County and Family Courts across the South West of England. She has also been registered to undertake court appointed cross-examination in domestic abuse cases.
Jen was recently invited to appear on BBC Radio Devon to explain the law relating to Public Order offences following a call for MPs to be given greater protection from harassment and abuse.

Driving offence
This was my first time in court, so I had no idea of the procedures and ‘correct’ behaviours. Jen took time to go through what would happen, and provided open, honest advice without making me feel in the least pressured to make a decision one way or the other. In court she went out of her way to soothe and smooth the hearing, and got me the best result I could realistically have envisaged.
Would I seek her services again? Yes, without hesitation – but I sincerely hope it won’t be necessary!

Outstanding service
Jen represented me for a speeding offence. She was incredibly knowledgable about the offence and ways to mitigate against a worst case scenario. If I ever found myself in a situation needing support then I would not hesitate the use Jen again. Her approach was very professional with clear and pro-active advice.

Driving case
Jen was absolutely fantastic in representing me, she was professional while also very friendly and easy to chat to. I was incredibly nervous and Jen was so understanding of this and made me feel as comfortable as possible. She covered everything I’d hoped she would in court and ended up getting me the best possible outcome. I couldn’t fault her at all and if I ever needed a solicitor again I’d go straight to her. Jens assistant was also lovely. She was quick to respond to any emails I sent and made sure I was always kept informed of changes or things Jen needed from me.

Excellent professional representation

Arrested on suspicion of committing a serious criminal offence.

Earlier this year I was arrested and held overnight on suspicion of having committed a very serious criminal offence. When released on pre-charge bail, I contacted Jen and explained fully what had occurred, this meant disclosing some personal and sensitive details to her. She was unfazed by this information, agreed to act for me, after which she provided clear, calm comments and advice on how best to handle this and she took action immediately.
She was efficient in her dealings with the police officers and detectives concerned and was able to explain to them why they must release both information that was being withheld, questions that were unanswered and property that was being unnecessarily retained. She was immediately successful in these requests which had been ignored when asked by me previously.
Her interactions with the police by email or phone have a light touch, but they also can leave no doubt as to how serious she is in protecting her client's rights, by firmly and confidently dealing with any issues or actions by the police that might not meet current guidelines.
Communication was extremely good. I was updated regularly by phone and email, either by Jen or Sarah Hockin her assistant, both knew the current state of play and were able to answer any questions I had pretty much immediately.
Asking Jen and her team to act for me was the best decision I could have made. Their local knowledge as well as skill handling the case during the 3 months that is was ongoing reduced my stress levels, restored my self-confidence and let me sleep at night. And as you may have guessed, as I'm not writing this review from prison that Jen's efforts have prevailed and we were informed recently by the police that no further action would be taken.
I can only say that without Jen, her team and their work on my behalf the situation could have ended very differently. Based on my recent experience, if you are facing any issue involving the police or potential criminal proceedings get on the phone immediately to Jen as I would recommend her, her team and her firm Slee Blackwell without hesitation.
PS I know this may seem like a fake review written by a family member or friend. I am neither. However, I was arrested and held in police custody on suspicion of committing a very serious criminal offence. Had the case gone forward a trial would have been held in Crown Court in front of a jury and if found guilty I could have been subject to the maximum penalty of a life sentence. So unless you have also faced such a prospect, do not dismiss my level of praise in this review as overrated, I can assure you it is genuine.

Amazing help
