Having had a previous career in financial services marketing, I qualified as a solicitor in 2006. I joined Balfour+Manson in July 2015, changed firms in October 2020, and returned to Balfour+Manson in October 2023. I have always specialised in private client matters, and enjoy meeting and getting to know clients, building relationships as a trusted advisor to them and their family. Every client, their personal, family and financial circumstances, is different and this means my job is always varied and very interesting - it’s all about people. My specialism is in personal law including all aspects of wills, powers of attorney, succession planning, and trusts. I am very experienced in dealing with winding up estates (executry administration) including complex and contentious estates, as well as advising on legal rights which are particular to Scots law. I enjoy working closely with our client support manager, assisting vulnerable or older clients at key times of their lives, putting provisions in place for the future or practical assistance in the present.

    Will and power of attorney

    I needed to make a will and set up a Power of Attorney and Balfour + Manson was recommended to me by a friend whose opinions I trust. From my initial contact by phone with the receptionist to my two meetings with the excellent Catriona Torrance everything went smoothly and I feel I received excellent, clear advice given in a professional and friendly manner. Should I ever need a lawyer again I will immediately contact this firm and I would recommend them to anyone living in Scotland.

    Will writing & POA

    Catriona made the process of writing my will and getting a power of attorney in place so easy. All the detail for both documents was explained to me very clearly, and everything was completed very efficiently.     My making a will experience

    As a non-UK person and with a not-straightforward personal situation, I anticipated a difficult process for me to make a will. Actually not only it wasn't the case but I also received relevant and important information about options for me to move forward.
