Disappointing experience - I wish I had gone with a different firm
I specifically went to Martin Dewar because he was the friend of a neighbour, and was recommended. Unfortunately, much of the work was handed to another colleague, who I wasn't introduced to or told would be involved, so the colleague's emails went into my junk mail box which delayed the sale process. They didn't let me know they had sent the emails or chase me when I didn't respond (which was in contrast to my rapid responses to the emails I received from Martin at the beginning of the sale). In addition, I meticulously filled in all the Property Information Forms and included all guarantees and certificates, numbered according to the corresponding sections in the form (and took them to the office, to ensure they arrived safely within 4 days of initiating the sale), but all the guarantees and additional information I included wasn't passed on to the buyer. They were still chasing for it a month later (via the Estate Agent, who was actually excellent). This led to many questions from the buyer and I believe a distrust from them. I wish I had been told it would not all be handled by Martin, and I would have gone to a local solicitor. This experience was in stark contrast to our experience buying our previous houses, where a single solicitor conducted the work and was in regular contact. I only spoke to Martin on two brief occasions. A very disjointed and disappointing experience.
