One of the most highly regarded criminal defence lawyers in Britain, Stuart’s advice and advocacy skills are in demand from people with high public profiles as well as those facing serious criminal charges. He is an expert in defending allegations of murder, industrial fraud, historic sexual abuse and other serious, long and complicated matters. He has been a member of the specialist Serious Fraud Panel since 2000 and was selected by the Legal Aid Agency in 2001 to pilot the seriousl fraud high cost case management arrangements. Stuart was amongst the first solicitor advocates to defend criminal cases in Crown Court. He is a member of the Complex Crime Appeals Tribunal, an Examiner for The Law Society’s Duty Criminal Solicitor Accreditation and lectures on Criminal Defence topics to government bodies and NGOs. He is a former Chair and member of Legal Aid Agency Criminal Costs Committee. Stuart has been Chair of the Law Society's Criminal Law Committee since 2020 and provides advice and guidance on policy proposals as they relate to the context of criminal defence. A legal business entrepreneur he was the architect of a completely client-centred legal service delivery leading the field in developing wrap-round personal service legal representation from police station through to Crown Court, Court of Appeal and Supreme Court. As the Managing Director of DPP Law Ltd, he has driven the firm’s growth into a serious and respected nationwide provider of a wide range of legal services from offices in London, Birmingham and Liverpool.
